The top of the Alfa Romeo Giulia range is represented by the Quadrifoglio, an exciting version in terms of aesthetics and performance thanks to the 510 HP 2.9 V6 biturbo engine and a set-up that allows it to look down on its more famous German rivals.

However, all this involves an expense starting from 99,000 euros, except for the addition of options such as Akrapovic titanium and carbon exhausts (5,000 euros), carbon-ceramic brakes (9,000 euros) or Sparco seats with carbon shells (4,500 euros).

Since last April, however, the look of the Quadrifoglio, which combines personality and sportiness, also distinguishes in many elements the new Giulia Estrema trim, which has inherited some characteristics of the Veloce Ti model (reserved for certain markets) and focusing on the performance qualities of the 4 2.0 cylinders with 280 HP and 400 Nm of torque, certainly not as gritty as the V6 by Ferrari but such as to allow the price list to drop to 70,200 euros.

Estrema, the first global special series dedicated not only to Giulia but also to Stelvio, embodies the utmost expression in terms of technical refinement and driving dynamics and is inspired by the world of Alfa Romeo racing.

Dedicated to sportiness, this trim level brings the soul of the Quadrifoglio to life in a car which - although very distinctive aesthetically - is designed to be used every day.

Giulia Estrema's customer is therefore attentive to excellent technical solutions and capable of appreciating them when driving (this is the case of the active suspension and the limited slip differential which are present as standard) but also capable of creating a real symbiosis with the car, enjoying the pleasure of sitting behind the wheel of an authentic Alfa Romeo sports car.

The trim level of the Giulia Estrema is related not only to that of the Quadrifoglio but also to that of the Veloce to which it adds the comfortable Alcantara sports seats with red stitching and 8-way electric adjustment, many carbon fiber finish details and the Harman Kardon Hi-Fi audio with 14 speakers and subwoofer.

The frame of the typical Alfa front grille and the door mirror caps are also finished in carbon with a woven texture.

The 19-inch diamond-finished wheels with Performance design are the same as on the Veloce.

Then there are a specific Extreme badge on the side and black brake calipers.

Although the song of the V6 of Ferrari origin is missing, as soon as you turn on the Giulia Estrema engine, you immediately get the impression of being on board a Giulia different from the others, especially when the 4-cylinder rises towards higher revs and the sound becomes more pleasant. .

Exploiting it without paying attention to fuel consumption, with Extrema you can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, which is a really interesting time for a 2.0-litre saloon.

The modifications introduced with this special series have certainly improved the cornering control of the Giulia Estrema compared to the entry-level model, the Veloce.

especially from the point of view of the oscillations and movements of the car body when cornering.

The presence of the adaptive suspension makes Giulia Estrema very stable and comfortable in all situations.

And this makes it possible to make the most of the steering which - as in all models developed on the Giorgio platform - is precise, fast and always sincere, even when this sports sedan tackles roads with many bends and uneven surfaces.

The test to which we subjected Giulia Estrema made it possible to appreciate the active suspension which, in addition to supporting the driving style, adapts in real time to the conditions of the road.

The result is 'extreme' travel comfort without ever penalizing sporting behaviour.

It should be noted that the Alfa active Suspension control system manages suspensions and shock absorbers in constant interaction with the CDC (Chassis domain control) and with the DNA, calibrating intervention according to the mode selected.

Equally positive judgment for the self-locking differential which takes stability and traction control to even higher levels in all grip conditions.

This is because it distributes torque and traction when exiting corners even under high speed and acceleration conditions.

Finally, a word on consumption, which is really low for a supercharged petrol of this power: traveling on the motorway around the speed limit (130 km/h) it is easy to find figures on the on-board computer in the order of 7.6-7.7 liters per 100 km, which translates into behavior towards the environment that is exactly the opposite of the Extreme denomination.

We remind you that the Alfa Romeo Giulia offer includes, below, the Super, Sprint and Ti versions with prices starting at 49,200 euros.

And also that Giulia Estrema can be ordered (for 68,400 euros) in the 210 HP 2.2 turbodiesel variant which delivers a torque of 470 Nm.
