It should have been just a simple meeting between two agents of the tax administration and one of their constituents, Monday, November 21 at the beginning of the afternoon in Bullecourt, a small village in Pas-de- Calais.
For a reason that remains to be clarified, the meeting turned into an ambush and ended in a bloodbath.
At the start of the evening, Ludovic Montuelle, 43, chief inspector of public finances, head of the Arras verification brigade, was found unresponsive on the ground floor of the home of the man he was visiting.
According to the findings of the coroner, he would have been hit by several stab wounds to the back and chest.
