The three men may have been confused after one of them lost a police armband. They would have defrauded about fifteen people

For several months, the investigators wanted to put an end to this scam.

Three men were arrested on Wednesday and placed in police custody in Nantes for around fifteen thefts committed at the homes of the elderly, where they had presented themselves posing as police officers, we learned this Friday from the wooden floor.

These three men, a 55-year-old father, his 31-year-old son, and another 34-year-old man, "were presented to the prosecution, with the aim of trying them according to the deferred appearance procedure", explained the public prosecutor of Nantes, Renaud Gaudeul.

They are accused of having stolen money and jewelry, between July and October 2022, from the homes of elderly people, most of them born between 1925 and 1932, in around ten municipalities, including Nantes, La Baule and Pornichet. .

“For a few months now, we have noticed an upsurge, here in Loire-Atlantique, of flights of false quality.

More specifically, these were individuals who posed as police officers "in order to" distract the attention "of elderly people, to steal effects from their homes, underlined Renaud Gaudeul.

In recidivism, they incur 20 years in prison.

The prosecution has requested the imprisonment of the three men, pending their judgment which will take place on January 24.

For these facts, they each incur sentences of 20 years' imprisonment because they are, all three, "in a state of legal recidivism".

They are prosecuted "for acts of theft, with three aggravating circumstances, in this case for having committed these thefts by making undue use of the status of police officer, secondly for having committed these acts in a meeting, and thirdly for having entered the home of each of the victims by trickery, ”detailed Renaud Gaudeul.

“At the beginning of October, on the occasion of one of the events, one of the individuals lost a police armband, and this is what made it possible, thanks to the analysis of this armband, to be able to identify a first individual, and this are then the subsequent investigations “which made it possible to identify the two others, explained the prosecutor.
