Spend the night on a Porsche with the Porsche roof tent?

Goes!

Costs 5,000 euros.

unique.

Is also a unique experience.

Nothing is impossible.

Because of Toyota!

This saying is more appropriate for Porsche these days.

Who would have thought that you could turn a real 911 into a dune surfer?

The Dakar, just presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show, really has it all.

Or go camping with the Porsche.

Only what for freaks?

Rather quite stylish!

With its own roof tent, which the Zuffenhausen-based company has now launched.

That fits on a 911, but also on a Macan, Cayenne, Panamera and Taycan.

How does that feel?

We tried it.

White and blue - in this Bavarian color combination, two Porsche Taycans are waiting for their overnight guests.

The electric Porsche has already been sold over 100,000 times.

The roof tent not (yet).

Overnight in a Porsche roof tent: It can get cold in California

Coyote or rattlesnake - that is the question.

We don't necessarily want to meet either of them in the middle of the night.

At least one coyote has been heard of.

At 1.50 meters above the ground, with an entire Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo beneath us, the howling didn't scare us.

But now that the urine is pressing, it's getting serious.

Although coyotes are wolf-like animals, they actually give humans a wide berth.

So, have courage: We climb down the aluminum ladder, a headlamp on our heads.

They used to be called pit lights.

bad association.

Just reminds us of the pit organ of a rattlesnake.

This is a kind of heat sensor with which the rickety beasts recognize the smallest temperature differences and therefore go hunting at night.

Usually.

But not at these temperatures.

Because it can get cold in California.

Here in the mountains of Santa Monica, just behind Malibu, it's only eight degrees in November.

Hopefully the rascal with the rattle doesn't meander through the night.

It's also a reptile that likes it warm.

With the flip-flops we go to a ledge.

So many lights below us, in the distance the megalopolis of Los Angeles glows like a conflagration.

Above it lies an immaculately cold and, above all, clear starry sky.

When night falls over Malibu….

Good Morning America!

A little wrinkled but excited about the night in the roof tent, our author Rudolf Bögel watches the sunrise in the mountains of Malibu.

Spend the night in a Porsche roof tent: Hotel rooms for nature lovers cost 5,000 euros

Some people lie more in their Porsche seat because it's casual.

We're lying on the Porsche - and that's even more casual.

Because now there is even a roof tent from Zuffenhausen.

With it, friends and enemies of the sports brand can now do what they have wanted to do for a long time.

Finally climb onto the roof of a Porsche.

The pleasure costs almost 5,000 euros.

In return, Porsche promises, "the sports car will be transformed into a hotel room for nature lovers".

In a matter of minutes, by the way.

Open the safety latches, lift the hard case with the help of two gas pressure dampers, then extend the telescopic ladder, fold out the underbody - and a tent is already arching over the sports car.

Here and there it still has to be brought into shape with four spring rods.

But that looks really good.

Even beginners quickly experience success.

But Porsche wouldn't be Porsche if you weren't spoiled for choice when it comes to design: The hard case is available in black/light gray or black/dark gray - only genuine with matt black lettering on the sides.

Original Porsche stop.

This label is only available for special and selected products.

For example with roof tiles.

That's a whole different story now.

But it is true.

we swear

This is what it looks like when the sun rises over Saddlerock, a rock shaped like a horse's saddle.

Beyond lies the Californian part of the Pacific.

Spend the night in a Porsche roof tent: sleep under five million stars

Sometimes you wonder why you do the things you do.

For example, staying in a roof tent on a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.

At eight degrees.

The nearest guesthouse is a few miles away.

At least there is a mattress in the tent that looks pretty comfortable, as well as three blankets and a hot-water bottle.

And just in case things get particularly bad, Porsche has prepared a bobble hat, gloves and socks with a fur cover for the somewhat different overnight experiment in California.

And hopefully the neighborhood doesn't snore.

In any case, the thin tent walls are not suitable for noise insulation.

Recently, founders of "Die Höhle der Löwen" (Vox) tried their luck with a comfortable roof tent - but in the end the deal fell through.

And even for the Cybertruck, which is still not on the market,

Spend the night in a Porsche roof tent: Brock spends 150 nights in his 996 Porsche

By the way, next to our Taycan there is a real Porsche icon: a 911 from the 996 series. And in the roof tent above it sits a real cult American.

Brock Keen travels all over America like this and is a real social media superstar for that scene (instagram: @996roadtrip).

He goes on spectacular road trips with his wife Sara and dog Lucy.

He's on the road 150 nights a year, he says: "Who needs a five-star hotel when you can sleep under millions of stars."

Spend the night in a Porsche roof tent: puristic and decadent at the same time

We see the stars too.

A fresh, cool wind blows through the small tent roof window.

Not bad because it's surprisingly cozy and warm in here.

And it stays that way throughout the night because the tent is well insulated.

At dawn we even open the front.

watch sunrise.

The horizon slowly changes color behind the strange rock.

It's called Saddlerock because it looks like a horse's saddle.

Wine grows on its slopes.

Flounder with flounder on the roof.

Going off-road with the Taycan is no problem.

Four-wheel drive and a special gravel program help.

An impressive backdrop that die-hard film and series fans may remember.

The A-Team was filmed here and Knight Rider David Hasselhoff has also paid his respects to the Semler family compound.

Slightly wrinkled, we peel ourselves out of the blanket landscape.

"How was the night," Brock's wife Sara wants to know.

She is sitting on the ladder with a cup of coffee.

Out of necessity, we can only think of "marvellous", wonderful.

After all, you don't do that every day.

Climbing onto the roof of a Porsche to spend the night there - that's puristic and decadent at the same time.
