Who would have thought that you could turn a real 911 into a dune surfer?

The Dakar, just presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show, really has it all.

Or go camping with the Porsche.

Only what for freaks?

Rather quite stylish!

With its own roof tent, which the Zuffenhausen-based company has now launched.

That fits on a 911, but also on a Macan, Cayenne, Panamera and Taycan.

How does that feel?

We tried it.

Overnight in a Porsche roof tent: It can get cold in California

Coyote or rattlesnake - that is the question.

We don't necessarily want to meet either of them in the middle of the night.

At least one coyote has been heard of.

At 1.50 meters above the ground, with an entire Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo beneath us, the howling didn't scare us.

But now that the urine is pressing, it's getting serious.

Although coyotes are wolf-like animals, they actually give humans a wide berth.

Hopefully the rascal with the rattle doesn't meander through the night.

Some people lie more in their Porsche seat because it's casual.

We're lying on the Porsche - and that's even more casual.

Because now there is even a roof tent from Zuffenhausen.

With it, friends and enemies of the sports brand can now do what they have wanted to do for a long time.

Finally climb onto the roof of a Porsche.

The pleasure costs almost 5,000 euros.

In return, Porsche promises, "the sports car will be transformed into a hotel room for nature lovers".

In a matter of minutes, by the way.

Open the safety latches, lift the hard case with the help of two gas pressure dampers, then extend the telescopic ladder, fold out the underbody - and a tent is already arching over the sports car.

Here and there it still has to be brought into shape with four spring rods.

But that looks really good.

Even beginners quickly experience success.

But Porsche wouldn't be Porsche if you weren't spoiled for choice when it comes to design: The hard case is available in black/light gray or black/dark gray - only genuine with matt black lettering on the sides.

Spend the night in a Porsche roof tent: sleep under five million stars

Sometimes you wonder why you do the things you do.

For example, staying in a roof tent on a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.

At eight degrees.

The nearest guesthouse is a few miles away.

At least there is a mattress in the tent that looks pretty comfortable, as well as three blankets and a hot-water bottle.

And just in case things get particularly bad, Porsche has prepared a bobble hat, gloves and socks with a fur cover for the somewhat different overnight experiment in California.

And hopefully the neighborhood doesn't snore.

In any case, the thin tent walls are not suitable for noise insulation.
