The 7 finalist cars of Car of the Year 2023, one of the most prestigious and coveted awards in the automotive world, have been unveiled.
The award, which will be awarded on 13 January, the day the Brussels Motor Show opens, will involve a jury made up of journalists from 23 countries who will have to crown the 60th winner.
The initial selection, made up of 45 vehicles, produced a short list of cars that will compete for the important recognition in the final phase of the competition.
The names of the 7 protagonists correspond to those of Jeep Avenger, Kia Niro, Nissan Ariya, Peugeot 408, Renault Austral, Subaru Solterra/Toyota BZ4x and Volkswagen ID.Buzz.
To challenge SUVs and crossovers we find the Volkswagen electric van.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale, the BMW X1 and the Honda Civic, which have recently appeared on the market, do not reach the last stage.
All the finalists propose a mix of cars that also use the internal combustion engine, and exclusively electric models, photographing the current offer on the market.
A different situation from that of 2022, in which 6 of the 7 cars that arrived in the final were exclusively battery-powered.
In the golden register, the winning car will succeed the Hyundai Ioniq 5. In 2021, the Toyota Yaris won, while in 2020 the Peugeot 208 and in 2019 the Jaguar I-Pace.
