2022-11-30T11:52:40.545Z

A historic month for electric vehicle sales in Israel: Tesla Model 3 first followed by BYD Auto 3 and Geely Geometric C. November will end with 6,000 electric deliveries

For the first time: Tesla is the best-selling car in Israel.

Preliminary data from the Ministry of Transportation reveals that the Model 3 of the American streetcar manufacturer has delivered approximately 2,200 Model 3 models since the beginning of November, thus ahead of two other streetcars: the BYD Auto 3 which delivered approximately 1,400 units and the Geely Geometry C with 790.

This is also the first time that the three models The best sellers are electric, and they are all made in China.

In total, November will end with the delivery of approximately 6,000 streetcars, for example four times the number of these cars sold in Israel in the whole of 2020.

Also delivered this month in the tram segment were approximately 170 Skoda Aniac models, 125 Skywall ET5 models, 60 Hyundai Kona EV and 55 Eways U5 models.

The market share of streetcars in Israel will exceed 30% this month, and cumulatively since the beginning of the year stands at 9%, with cumulative deliveries of 25,000 streetcars.

In Europe, for comparison, the market share of streetcars since the beginning of the year stands at about 13%, and in Norway, the world leader, at 77%.

Despite the strong deliveries this month, Tesla ranks second overall in electric deliveries with about 5,000 3 and Y models, and Geely first, with about 5,800 Geometry C models. BYD, which was launched in Israel only in October, has already delivered about 2,000 cars.

The surge this month in electric deliveries in Israel is explained by the diversion of inventory from Europe, in favor of the demands that were waiting for it.

In Europe, Model Y is clearly preferred over Model 3 among the Tesla models - Model Y has become in recent months the best-selling vehicle in Germany, for example, overtaking the Volkswagen Golf, which held the title for years.

On the other hand, the Chinese manufacturers are currently receiving lower demand than the initial expectations on the continent, which caused them to direct shipments to Israel.

In January, the purchase tax on electric vehicles will be doubled from 10% to 20%, and streetcars will become more expensive by thousands of shekels.

This is a move that the new finance minister can still stop, but the budget price, about NIS 600 million, will make such a move difficult while the treasury will have to finance many commitments to partnership in the new coalition.

And still: Kia Picanto the best selling car in 2022

Thanks to the strong deliveries of the trams, November broke this year's trend, recording an increase of more than 15% compared to last November.

In this way, about 18,000 new cars will be delivered this month, when since the beginning of the year, about 263,000 cars have been delivered, including parallel imports.

The best-selling gasoline car this month was the Kia Picanto, with 781 units so far, and it will also end 2022 as the best-selling car in Israel, having delivered about 12,500 units since the beginning of the year, ahead of the Toyota Corolla with 11,400 in all import channels.

Kia also finished November first with 2,700 deliveries, for the fourth consecutive month, ahead of Toyota (2,415) and Hyundai (1,000).

Cumulatively, Hyundai maintains the market lead this year as well, with 43,000 deliveries.
