Jeep Wrangler 4xe Phev Sahara, at the top of true off-road vehicles

The Jeep name - and above all that of the traditional Wrangler model - have always been synonymous with great off-road adventures, with the ability to overcome practically any obstacle.

But since this iconic 4x4 is offered in Europe only in the 4xe plug-in hybrid version, the goal achieved by Wrangler is even more important and qualifying: it can really go anywhere but respecting the environment and limiting CO2 emissions as much as possible.

Arriving in Italian dealerships at the same time as the introduction of the 2022 model year, the Wrangler 4xe Phev was immediately 'understood' and appreciated by enthusiasts.

The reasons for this success are obvious: despite an unchanged aesthetic - it remains pure, hard and also luxurious - this very updated edition is, thanks to its 380 HP, the most performing, powerful, efficient, sustainable, technically advanced and connected Wrangler ever introduced on the European market.

And with a Wltp approved consumption of 3.5 liters per 100 km, CO2 emissions limited to just 79 g/km and an electric range - always measured according to Wltp standards - which can exceed 50 km in the urban cycle Wrangler 4xe Phev represents another important step in the brand's journey towards the electrification of the entire range.

And, above all, in making users (and the most fanatical of traditional off-road) aware of the advantages of a 4x4 system which, while retaining all the prerogatives of the Jeep world, makes optimal use of electric propulsion.

As we were able to evaluate 'day after day' in a complete road and off-road test,

From the combination of the 4-cylinder turbo petrol of the other 2.0 and the two electric units - one integrated in the ICE engine, which also acts as a generator for energy recovery, and one at the rear to ensure AWD traction - the driver of this Jeep has 380 HP and above all a good 637 Nm of maximum torque, the 'ideal' quantity to get out of the way even in the most difficult situations.

Energy is supplied by a 400 Volt battery pack housed under the rear bench seat, in a well-sheltered position.

The most interesting and positive aspect is that - unlike other hybrid off-road vehicles that use only electronics to manage the transmission and the 4-wheel drive, the Wrangler 4xe Phev does it through the TorqueFlite automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer box Selec -Trac with permanent all-wheel drive.

In the Sahara version under our test, the transmission ratio in the low range is 2.72:1 while in the Rubicon (with an even more off-road character) the scheme provides for the Rock-Trac 4x4 system with permanent four-wheel drive and the possibility of inserting the 4LO position, i.e. the 4 wheels with low ratios.

Traveling on all types of routes - from the asphalt of the motorways to the 'white' funds typical of the Italian agricultural roads - the 4xe technology of the Wrangler plug-in hybrid leaves the freedom (and the pleasure) of driving with four-wheel drive in 100 mode % electric, therefore in total silence, respecting the environment and in absolute safety.

Those sitting behind the wheel have the option to choose between the E Selec modes, i.e. Hybrid, Electric and eSave, the latter to conserve the battery charge for later use, such as accessing an urban center in the ZTL area.

In this regard, it should be noted that the 50 km of electric autonomy is easily recoverable, both through public columns (with the specific Free2Move solutions) or at home and in the office with the easyWallbox, which allows a full charge in less than 3 hours at 7.4 kWh.

It goes without saying that the Wrangler 4xe Phev equipment - which can be completed with interesting original accessories - represents the best, including infotainment, that can be expected from a vehicle of this type.

However, a curiosity that refers to the world of smartphones, and to the famous protective screens in 'gorilla glass' that serve to protect them, should be underlined.

Since MY 2022, the Wrangler 4xe Phev has also been equipped with an ultra-resistant windshield of this type, standard on the Rubicon and optional on the Sahara.

And in a technological and increasingly digital age, having an extra physical 'shield' against damage from stone chips adds an appreciable feeling of tranquillity.

Online price list starting from 74,803 euros instead of 79,500.
