Covid-19: are you affected by the “autumn reminder” of vaccination?

2022-12-04T13:20:49.772Z

FOCUS - The Minister of Health judged this Sunday "insufficient" the number of people up to date with their second booster shot.

The health authorities intend to intensify the “

autumn reminder

” campaign launched on October 3, aimed at vulnerable people and health professionals.

Several voices have been raised in recent days to encourage the French people concerned to receive their booster dose as soon as possible.

It takes you 5 minutes and it will protect you, it will limit the risk of complications and hospitalization

” urged Olivier Véran on Thursday, regretting the too low number of people at risk up to date with their booster doses.

Are you one of the priority people, and therefore called upon to receive this booster dose as soon as possible?

To date, all French people over the age of 5 are invited to have a complete vaccination schedule: two doses of vaccine received three weeks apart then a booster dose in the following three to six months, except for people already infected with Covid-19, and therefore need one less dose.

Among French people who already have a complete vaccination schedule and who have received a booster dose, it is also encouraged to receive a fourth dose (a second booster) for:

  • the elderly (over 60);

  • residents of nursing homes or long-term care units;

  • people at risk of a severe form (immunocompromised, pregnant women or patients with a disease that affects the immune system);

  • those who live in the entourage of the people mentioned above;

  • healthcare or healthcare professionals.

The vaccination campaign for this second booster started in the spring, but all these people are now called upon to do a new booster (a fifth dose) in the fall - or at least a fourth dose if they have not yet received second reminder.

Clearly, the fall booster dose is offered to all people at risk and to healthcare professionals, regardless of the number of doses previously received.

Everyone can get vaccinated

François Braun, Minister of Health

Responding to questions from BFMTV, the Minister of Health François Braun also clarified that no person asking to receive a booster dose and not presenting any contraindications could be refused the vaccine.

Thus people who do not belong to the above categories can also decide to receive an autumn reminder: "

everyone can get vaccinated

", hammered the minister.

2 million booster doses since October

According to health authorities, last Monday, 2 million people had received a booster shot against Covid-19 since the launch of the booster campaign on October 3 with bivalent vaccines.

Among them, 1.8 million people had been injected with such vaccines, which target both the original strain and the Omicron strain of Covid.

To date, 60.2% of French people have a complete vaccination schedule with a booster dose.

On BFMTV François Braun was also worried about the too low number of people at risk who are up to date with their recall: "

just over 10%

" only.

Older people are the most up-to-date: 40% of 60-80 year olds and 20% of over 80 year olds.

The Minister considers these figures "

insufficient

" and called in particular on the directors of the medical units where these people at risk reside to encourage and facilitate the fall recall campaign.

For her part, Brigitte Autran, president of the Committee for monitoring and anticipating health risks (the Covars, which replaced the scientific council) also deplored this Sunday the “disappointing” level of vaccination against Covid-19 by calling by elsewhere “

to reinforce the wearing of a mask, as well as barrier gestures

”.

We have the same problem with the flu: there is a lower level of vaccination this year, compared to previous years.

The French really need to protect themselves

, ”she regretted in an interview with

Sunday newspaper

(JDD).

At least 90% of the world's population has some form of immunity to Covid-19, either through infection or from the vaccine, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Friday. while warning against the decline of vigilance.
