The Hilux wears armor and enlists in the MGB - voila! a car

2022-12-08T17:04:11.202Z

The Pelsen Ram company was chosen to supply the police and the MGB with 69 bullet-proof vehicles of the Ten model, which will replace the Carakal vehicles in the territories and around Jerusalem

After the caracal came the jackal: Pelsan Ram, a subsidiary of Pelsan, won the police tender for a light armored car to be used by the police and Border Guard fighters in Judea, Samaria and the Jerusalem area.

Pelsen, which developed a vehicle based on the Toyota Hilux, beat Global Shield, which offered a vehicle based on the Isuzu Dimax.

The police ordered 69 tools, which will be manufactured in the next two years at the Pelsen Ram plant in the Dalton industrial area.

Pelsan Ram is a subsidiary of Pelsan, manufacturers of vehicles protected by Kibbutz Sasa.

The young company is owned by the parent company and Kobi Ben Ari, a former executive in Pelsan and a specialist in off-road vehicles, and specializes in the protection of civilian vehicles, in Israel and abroad.

The Jackal, as the new vehicle is called in the meantime, is based on the Hi-Lex diesel sold in Israel, with the same 2.8 liter engine.

It is able to carry 5 fighters, protected against small arms and stones, equipped with shooting slits, a separate compartment for detainees and cargo compartments for the fighters' equipment.

The lower weight than the Carkall will allow the police to also authorize officers with a B license to drive the car, and its maintenance costs will be cheaper thanks to lower fuel consumption and the Hilux's reputation for reliability.

The police originally purchased 77 Caracal vehicles from Plesen in 2008.

However, when the time came to replace them, it was decided to split the tender between two vessels, the first a protected vehicle that would be lighter than the caracal, and another vessel weighing 8 tons, which would be heavier and protected from it.

The second tender has not yet been decided, in which Pelsan competes with the current Carakel, which is built on a Ford Tandoori chassis.
