Covid-19: the vaccination campaign is on the rise again as Christmas approaches

2022-12-13T14:05:15.670Z

On average smoothed over one week, the number of booster vaccinations adapted to Omicron was multiplied by 1.6. An increase in particular linked to the approach of the end of year celebrations.

She finally picks up speed.

Since the beginning of December, the booster vaccination campaign with so-called bivalent vaccines, effective both against the original strain of Covid-19 and against the subvariants of Omicron BA.1, BA.4 and BA.5, has accelerated.

Today these vaccines are used for all reminders carried out in pharmacies, where nearly 75% of vaccinations are carried out.

Monovalent vaccines remain used only for primary vaccinations, which remains very rare (468 people on average smoothed over one week to December 11).

On average, the number of people vaccinated with a booster adapted to the Omicron variant was multiplied by 1.6 in one week, increasing from 52,138 on December 4 to 85,373 on December 11.

Over two weeks (since November 27), this figure has even been multiplied by almost 2.3.

This is clearly due to the communication campaign and clarification of targets

For Pierre-Olivier Variot, president of the union of community pharmacists (USPO), “

there are also many people who want to be vaccinated for the holidays.

ones

.

Friday, December 9, the Minister of Health François Braun clarified access to the anti-Covid vaccine booster, saying that everyone could “

get vaccinated

”.

That is, each person who does not have contraindications to vaccination can receive a booster.

It was actually already the case before, since it was enough to say that we had a fragile person in his entourage to receive a dose

”, assures Philippe Besset.

It is nevertheless necessary to respect a “

time limit of six months after the last injection

,

recalls Philippe Besset.

"

We no longer take into account whether the person had the Covid in this interval

"

,

he adds.

No inventory problem

In terms of stocks, “

there will be enough vaccines for everyone

,” says Philippe Besset.

When we order doses on Monday, we receive them maximum on Thursday

,

adds Pierre-Olivier Variot.

In mid-November, the vaccination reminder campaign stalled among the over 60s, yet a priority public.

Fragile people remain the most likely to develop a serious form and they must be protected

François Braun judged Tuesday, December 13 at the microphone of franceinfo that “

it was not enough

” for these audiences

"

About 25% of people over 80 are up to date with their vaccinations

" and "

40% of people aged 60 to 80

", he said.

Tuesday, December 6, the infectiologist Anne-Claude Crémieux explained to

Figaro

that “

the vaccine does not [protect] from infection

”, but remains effective against serious forms and hospitalizations.

The hospital remains the main criterion used by the government to decide whether or not to take coercive measures.

As of December 12, the hospital tension of Covid-19 on intensive care capacity is 24.42%, a figure up slightly but which remains “

very tolerable

” for the healthcare system.
