Not because of quality: German cars fail the British study

According to a British study, Porsche is the most unreliable brand.
But Audi, BMW and Mercedes did not fare any better either.
In addition, they attracted negative attention due to high bills.
If something stands for quality worldwide, then it is the inscription "Made in Germany"!
No wonder then that three premium manufacturers have their headquarters in Germany.
In addition, there is Porsche, a well-known sports car manufacturer.
But apparently the reliability is not far off, as a British study now claims.
There it is not the US manufacturer Tesla, often criticized for its quality, that greets from the first place, but Porsche.
Audi (5), BMW (6) and Mercedes (7) are also in the top 10.
The study was created by Warrantywise, a British provider of warranty extensions.

For the ranking, the service provider analyzed its data and examined more than 131,000 guarantee contracts.
A score was calculated for each manufacturer, which is made up of damage and repair costs that occurred after the manufacturer's warranty had expired.
Cars that are no more than ten years old were taken into account.

The principle is simple.
The lower the value, the worse the brand's reliability after the warranty expires.
Porsche only got a score of 35.1 out of 100. A quite surprising result.
In the TÜV Report 2023, the Porsche 911 performed best in the older age groups.
And DEKRA also certified that German vehicles are particularly reliable.

Less surprisingly, Land Rover (40.2) and Jaguar (48.2) finished second and third, respectively.
According to the Warrantywise study, Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, Kia and Hyundai are the most reliable.
The Asian manufacturers achieve score values between 81 and 97.

But why do the German premium manufacturers do so poorly?
"More technology than ever in the high-end cars means that they also have a higher maintenance effort," explains Warrantywise CEO Lawrence Whittaker.
Added to this are the costs, which are usually more expensive with higher-priced brands.
This in turn costs points.
Incidentally, the highest single bill came from Land Rover.
One customer paid £23,890 (about €27,800) to have the electronic systems repaired.

The £15,000 that a Mercedes driver should pay for a new hybrid battery almost seems like a bargain.
However, a customer of the brand with the star also received a bill for 23,302 pounds (about 26,703 euros).
Audi and BMW also had their highest bills in excess of £20,000 (around €22,920).
At Porsche it was "only" 13,129 pounds (about 15,045 euros).
