Viviane Lambert, the mother of quadriplegic Vincent Lambert, died on Monday at the age of 77.

Information from the religious site Le Salon Beige, which one of Viviane Lambert's lawyers, Me Jérôme Triomphe, confirmed to Le Parisien.

According to the blog, Viviane Lambert had been hospitalized for several weeks.

On September 29, 2008, Vincent Lambert, a 32-year-old psychiatric nurse, married and father of a little girl, was the victim of a serious road accident which left him deeply handicapped, in a vegetative state.

His fate tears the family apart: his wife, Rachel, his nephew François, most of his brothers and sisters as well as the medical team are in favor of stopping Vincent's diet and hydration.

But his parents and two siblings want to maintain care at all costs.

Several years of legal proceedings ensued.

The family drama takes a media and political turn: it becomes “the Vincent Lambert affair”.

The nurse died on July 11, 2019, at the age of 42, at the CHU de Reims.

A year after the death of her son, Viviane Lambert confided her pain in the media.

“We are deeply marked.

Me, I'm in depression and you know, our health has fallen very low.

(…) He was not at the end of his life!

He wasn't brain dead, my son!

No, I will never accept that my child was killed.

(…) Even if there was no improvement, we don't throw people away like a Kleenex!
