The new Honda Civic in Israel: bigger, more expensive - voila! vehicle

2022-12-21T21:17:35.573Z

The 11th generation of the Honda Civic will be marketed in Israel with a hybrid drive. The dimensions are more generous than before, but its price - starting at NIS 180,000 - pushes it to the upper end of the group

The Meir company, importer of Honda to Israel, announced the start of marketing of the 11th generation of the compact Civic family car in the local market.

His entrance is a breath of fresh air in the importer's showrooms, which have been standing for months without much to offer buyers, while the entire market is in a binge of stock shortages and kidnapping from anyone nearby.

This is a situation in which it has been for several years, even when the previous distribution was still marketed here, but did not register significant sales numbers.

The new generation, which is produced in Indiana, United States, registers growth in the external dimensions, including an addition of 3 cm to the overall length, which stands at 4.6 meters, and an extension of the wheelbase by 3.5 cm to 273 cm, which should improve the space for passengers. Smaller than the outgoing model and small in general - only 345 liters, far below what is acceptable in its group.

The new generation of the Sivac will only be available in a hybrid version.

This is Honda's sophisticated hybrid drive system, in which a 2.0-liter gasoline engine (142 hp) actually works as a generator that supplies energy to the electric motor (183 hp) that drives the front wheels.

The gasoline engine engages when more power is required such as a quick exit, strong intermediate accelerations or while cruising at high speed.

The drive of the wheels is done using Honda's e-cvt box - a fixed single gear ratio between the electric unit and the wheels and a direct connection between the gasoline engine and the front wheels.

In practice it works similarly to a continuous box.

The performance is 7.8 seconds for 100 and 180 km/h maximum. The declared fuel consumption - 20.8 km per liter.

In the new generation, the Civic comes in three trim levels, Elegance, Sport and Advance, which will be the top of the three.

All of them have advanced safety systems such as lane departure correction, automatic braking, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic warning, traffic sign recognition and 11 airbags.

The new Civic received the highest marks from the IIHS, the umbrella organization of insurance companies in the United States.

In terms of equipment, the Elegance trim level has a 9-inch multimedia screen with Apple and Android compatibility and a 7-inch information display on the dashboard, front and rear USB sockets, air conditioning ports for the second row, split climate control, regenerative braking control levers, and more.

The Sport trim level increases the rim size from 17 to 18 inches, has a wireless charging surface, fabric-leather combination in the seats and more.

The Advance trim level adds a BOSE audio system, turn-following lighting, a 10.2-inch digital dashboard, a panoramic sunroof, an electric seat for the driver and passenger,

Prices for the new Honda Civic start at NIS 180,000 for the Elegance trim level, the Sport trim level will cost NIS 190,000, while the Advance will cost NIS 210,000.

Even considering that historically, the Civic has never tried to compete for the cheapest price slot in the category, the current price tag, which starts at NIS 180,000, puts it at a difficult starting point when it is tens of thousands of NIS more expensive than hybrid family cars such as the Toyota Corolla or Hyundai Elantra, and literally head to head with family cars Plug in like Skoda Octavia.

Not all the changes such as the increase in the price of raw materials, supply difficulties and even the taxation changes depend directly on Honda, but to think that until two years ago these were the price ranges of the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid makes it clear how much this market has changed.
