For the first time in about 20 years, the luxury vehicle market has a new leader: according to the figures of the Ministry of Transport, Mercedes ended 2022 with about 6,500 deliveries in Israel, ahead of the competing German brands, BMW with about 4,100 deliveries, and Audi with about 3,100.
This ends Audi's 20-year lead in this market, after the Volkswagen Group suffered more acute inventory problems this year than its competitors due to the chips and raw materials crisis, while Mercedes was ahead of it in launching electric models in most of the market segments in which it operates.
The delivery report of the Automobile Importers Association that will be published next week will show significantly lower numbers, because the Ministry of Transportation data also includes parallel imports, but the gaps will be preserved.
Mercedes' figure also includes deliveries of about 500 vans, which the competitors do not have, but even without them, Mercedes still delivered more vehicles this year.
And more luxury: Lexus delivered about 1,780 cars, while Volvo delivered 1,650.
Jeep, which is not a luxury brand but its price level places it in this market, delivered 3,500 units, including many in parallel imports.

Second generation GLC: bigger and more economical
Today, Mercedes importer Calmobile launched the facelift for the GLC, its crossover that competes with the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.
The second generation of the model that replaced the GLK was lengthened by 6 cm to 4.72 meters, but the wheelbase increased by only 1.5 cm, to 2.89 meters.
The width (2.89 meters) remains unchanged, and the height is half a centimeter (1.64 meters).
The cabin design is more similar to that of the new S-Class, including a 12-inch multimedia screen and a 12.3-inch digital dashboard. The standard equipment includes a window Panoramic sunroof, electric front seats, electric trunk door and a wireless charging pad. For an additional NIS 40,000 you can upgrade to the platinum package, which includes air suspension, rear steering, head-up display, LED matrix headlights and an upgraded Burmester stereo system. The rims grow from 18-19 inch to 20 inches.
There is also an AMG Line version that upgrades the exterior and next year a full AMG version will be launched with added power and suspension updates.
The safety equipment includes a full active package and 8 airbags, including a pillow for the driver's knees and one that will cut between the driver and the passenger in the event of an accident.

166 km per liter
Three engine versions will arrive in Israel, all with a 1,999 cc turbo gasoline engine, dual drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The GLC200 with a mild hybrid drive has 204 hp, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and consumes an average of one liter of gasoline per 12.8 km.
The GLC300 has 258 hp, 6.2 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, and the same official fuel consumption.
The interesting version is the plug-in version, the GLC300e.
This time it is equipped with a 31.2 kWh battery instead of 13.5 kWh, which extends the official electric range from 38 to 119 km. With a combined power of 313 hp, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 6.7 seconds. Official fuel consumption: 166 km per liter.
The battery can also be charged with fast DC charging within half an hour, or with AC charging at a rate of 11 kilowatts at home.
The prices are also this time about NIS 100,000 more expensive than the competitors Audi Q5 and MB-MW X3.

Answer for the parallel import: 4 years full warranty
At the same time, Kalmobil announced, in a move intended to compete with the parallel import of Mercedes, the doubling of the manufacturer's warranty from two years to four years for those who purchase a new vehicle through it.
In both cases, the maximum mileage for the warranty is 100,000 km. So far, each carrier's customers have received one additional year of warranty, and from January - two years.
Gili Parintah, CEO of Mercedes Israel, estimated that this is a benefit worth NIS 5,000 to NIS 20,000, depending on the model .
