Drive turnaround: The most important new electric cars in 2023

2022-12-30T09:57:18.195Z

Every fifth new car is now electric. Will the boom stay? In the new year, the state premium will shrink, but the range will be more diverse. Here are the top ten new models.

The drive turnaround is gaining momentum.

This is not necessarily to be seen on the street out there – only about 900,000 electric cars buzz around among the almost 50 million cars in total in this country – but the statistics of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) promise a rapid change.

A good one in five new cars registered in November is powered by electricity, a record figure.

It remains to be seen whether the electric boom will continue to this extent.

On the one hand, the federal government has reduced its funding for 2023, on the other hand, e-cars remain very expensive.

Volkswagen has just raised its ID.3 by almost 6,000 euros to a new entry-level price of 43,995 euros as part of a slight model update.

Car expert Ferdinand Dudenhöffer from the Center Automotive Research (CAR) expects a decline in new registrations for 2023 and 2024, also because of the significant increase in electricity prices.

The times when an electric car such as the BMW i3 could drive 100 kilometers with less than five euros in electricity costs are probably over for good.

In any case, it should not fail due to a lack of selection.

Almost every car brand now has one or more models with a fully electric drive in its range.

If you opt for a fully electric car, you can choose from more than 70 models.

A good two dozen new products are to be added in 2023.

Almost every segment is occupied.

The spectrum ranges from small and compact cars to business limousines, SUVs and crossovers of all sizes to high-performance sports cars.

Among them are more and more electric vehicles from China.

We have to get used to names like Aiways, MG, Nio, BYD and Great Wall.

They take advantage of the moment to enter the European market, since German car manufacturers in particular sometimes have absurdly long delivery times.

Buyers of an Audi Q4 e-tron can now wait up to 24 months for their vehicle.

Below we have selected the ten most important electrical innovations for 2023.

To get straight to the point, the electric Porsche Macan and its Ingolstadt counterpart, the Audi Q6 e-tron, are not included.

Although they were originally announced for the end of 2023, problems with development, especially with the software, forced both manufacturers to postpone the market launch to 2024.

However, it is quite possible that both models will be presented at least statically at the end of 2023.
