New-old sales queen for the Israeli car market: preliminary data from the licensing office reveal that the Kia Picanto delivered approximately 12,500 units in 2022 and became the best-selling car in Israel.
This is already the third time that the Korean mini car has achieved the top step on the dedication podium, after it was already the best seller in Israel in 2013 and 2018.
The year 2022 clearly expressed in the showrooms and delivery facilities of the car importers the era of transition from gasoline and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles.
The queen of sales is a small gasoline car, one of the cheapest on the market, but electric car sales jumped 150% to more than 27,000 cars, compared to 11,000 in 2021 and 1,500 in 2020.
Sales of flagship vehicles increased by 20% to approximately 13,500.
Indeed, among the ten cars sold in Israel this year, an electric one, the Geely Geometric C, was placed among the first five for the first time, with approximately 7,000 deliveries.
This is not the first time that a streetcar has entered the opening ten, Tesla did it with the Model 3 last year, but then 6,300 passes were enough for it to place only eighth.
Geely, on the other hand, is placed fifth.
This year, the Model 3 suffered from service problems, as well as a spike in price and supply difficulties after the Corona wave shut down the factory in Shanghai for a long time - and again in recent days - which reduced the number of deliveries of the model to about 5,000.
Another Chinese electric company, BYD Auto 3, delivered close to 4,000 cars within three months.

Also one plug-in model on the list: MG EHS, the big Chinese crossover, with more than 6,000 deliveries.
In fact, of the ten cars sold in Israel, only three are sold with only classic and polluting gasoline and diesel engines, Picanto, Mazda 2 and Hyundai Tucson.
And since the Plug-in is also a hybrid vehicle, 60% of the top ten are gasoline-electric cars: the Toyota Corolla in second place, the Toyota Yaris Cross in third place and the Toyota Rav4 in tenth place offer hybrid versions as well, but all three recorded a hybrid sales rate of over 95%.
The passing of the baton between Hyundai's pair of hybrid family cars, Ionique and Elantra, divided the dedication between them and prevented a family Hyundai from competing for a place on the sales podium this year.
The list also expresses the rise of Chinese women and the decline of European women.
Tucson and Yaris Cross do come to us from Europe, but from foreign factories of foreign manufacturers.
In 2022, no car from a European manufacturer was able to qualify for the list of ten best-selling in Israel, compared to two from Chinese manufacturers.
And this is just the beginning.
In February, another Chinese car that aims to be one of the best sellers in the country, Great Wall's Ora Funky Cat, will be launched, and together with BYD Auto in a full year and Geely Geometric C in a renewed model, it will compete on the podium against Toyota Corolla, which will also undergo a facelift.
Three Chinese electric cars against one Japanese hybrid, a skirmish that may end again with the victory of the gasoline Picanto.
