The used market: how much did you lose on the car this year - voila! vehicle

2022-12-31T00:45:11.076Z

We checked in Levi Yitzhak Weid2 price lists how much value our cars lost this year and we discovered some models whose value even increased by 8-11 percent

2022 was a good year for used cars and their owners.

The lack of inventory and the long waiting times for most of the new cars at the importers continued to pour demand into the used market, but at a slower pace than in the previous two years, when we saw crossover models in demand two or three years old sometimes being sold for 10,000 to 15,000 shekels above the list price.

"In the last two months, the used car market has calmed down," says Mi Ron Levy, VP of Levy Yitzhak Group.

People no longer want to buy, interest rates have risen and money has become more expensive.

But in popular categories like Mini, Super Mini and Jeeps the demand is higher.

Vehicles with good data are sold at list price and sometimes more than that.

In Mini and Super Mini there are even increases, up to 10-11 percent, not obvious in the second-hand market."

In the coming days, the new cars are expected to become more expensive, partly because of tax increases, and partly because of price increases by the manufacturers.

How will this affect used prices?

"We are waiting to see the importers' 2023 price lists, and how significant the price increases will be. Usually the price increase of new cars affects the price of the model up to three years back."

Moti Ano, the price list manager of the Yad2 site, says that "only highly sought-after models with a limited supply are sold above the list price. The price increases we saw last year have moderated. But the decreases have also moderated, and are lower than what we saw five years ago. The market has not yet returned to the situation it was before Corona.

How much value does a car now lose per year?

"It obviously varies from model to model, and sometimes between sub-models, engine versions or accessories of the same car that behave differently in the market.

There were years when cars would lose an average of 15-20 percent of their value, now we are in a market with much milder average declines,

So what happened to car prices in the last year?

We sampled 45 popular models in the main and interesting market groups from the 2018 models, according to the rule that most Israelis change cars after three years, in order to examine the prominent trends in the market.

This year almost no popular electric cars were sold in Israel, whose presence will be felt in the next market tests he will conduct.

Spark.

Mini: Chevy Spark jumped 11% more

Added value:

Chevrolet Spark (11%+), Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto (10%+)

Lost value:

Toyota Aygo (-1%)

The cheapest cars on the market recorded the highest price increases.

The Chevrolet Spark recorded an increase of about 11% in value within a year, which shows that the reports of the stoppage of production abroad are not enough for the demand for the model. The mini duo of the Hyundai-Kia group was very close to it, with an increase of 10%. While the Toyota Aygo generation The previous one lost a single percent of its value, also an unusual figure in terms of second-hand vehicles.

Super Mini: Mazda 2 added 6%, Renault Clio dropped 12%

Added value:

Mazda 2 (6%+), Seat Ibiza (4%+), Toyota Yaris Style 1.5, Hyundai i20 (both 3%+)

No change:

Nissan Micra.

Lost value:

Renault Clio (-12%), Peugeot 208 (-7%), Honda Jazz Trend (-4%)

The slightly larger Super Mini cars also benefited from strong demand.

Mazda 2 is already one of the oldest cars on the market, but its romance with the Israelis is only getting stronger.

The Seat Ibiza is a little younger, and has received a nice increase in value, as have two of the best sellers of the group, the Toyota Yaris and the Hyundai i20.

Our hearts go out to the owners of the successful pair of French cars, the Clio and the 208, which suffered significant declines.

So is the excellent Honda Jazz, the most spacious and useful super mini.

Small Jeeps: Rises to Arona and CX3, crash to 2008

The gainers:

Seat Aruna, Mazda CX-3 (+8%), Kia Stonic (+6%), the

Peugeot 2008, which fell by 12%

, another group that is strengthening in the new car market, sending demand to the other.

Like the super mini models of the two manufacturers, the jeeps of Seat and Mazda also got nice increases this year, as well as the Kia Stonic.

The 2008 Peugeot is a good car that the market seems to be missing, so its drop in value makes it an even more interesting deal.

CX5.

Medium and large Jeeps: Skoda and Mazda win the declines

Up:

Skoda Kodiaq 1.5, Mazda CX5 (2%+)

Down:

Toyota C-HR Hybrid (-6%), Hyundai buys gasoline, Peugeot 5008 (-5%), Peugeot 3008, Kia Sportage Urban, Subaru Outback (-4%), Nissan Qashqai (-3%), Toyota Rav4 Premium (-2%), Subaru XV, Hyundai Tucson (-1%)

As recreational vehicles become larger and more expensive, the declines increase, although still at low rates compared to previous years.

The Skoda Kodiaq and Mazda CX5 were the only ones to add value in the last 12 months.

On the other hand, the Toyota C-HR proved that even the combination between Japanese and hybrid does not protect against loss of value, and lost its value relatively even more than the Peugeot 3008 and 5008.

These for their part did not go down any further than popular Korean Jeeps.

Octavia.

It remained in demand even in the era of jeeps, even in the station wagon (photo: manufacturer website, manufacturer)

Family: Octavia and Ionic against the current

Up:

Skoda Octavia 1.2 L (2%+), Hyundai Ioniq Superim (1%+)

Down:

Hyundai i30 Luxury (-4%), Mazda 3 (-2%), Toyota Corolla GLI, Toyota Auris Hybrid ( 1%-)

Although it is neither a hybrid nor a Jeep, the Skoda Octavia continues to maintain strong demand in the second-hand market, a phenomenon that was strengthened this year probably due to the great lack of new Octavias.

Although the Hyundai Ioniq left the showrooms this year, it remains popular in the second-hand market.

Even families that lost their value this year did so at a relatively low rate.

Perhaps the buyers are beginning to understand that even if they are not tall and stylish, they give the family better value for money in terms of space and utility than the abundance of recreational vehicles.

Managers: declines only

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (-3%), Toyota Camry Hybrid (-4%), Skoda Superb (-5%), Volkswagen Passat (-9%)

a category that received some refinement with the introduction of hybrids, although its numbers are far from those of a decade ago.

Sonata and Camry are in demand thanks to the combination of generous dimensions and low fuel consumption, Superb and especially Passat are paying the price for the lack of a hybrid drive unit in their offer in Israel.

Land Cruiser.

The value is no longer increasing, now he loses the least in the group (Photo: Rami Gilboa, Rami Gilboa, Dorit Peled)

Terrain: Land Cruiser still rules

Toyota Land Cruiser (-2%), Mitsubishi Pajero (-8%), Land Rover Discovery (-9%), Jeep Grand Cherokee Lardo (-11%)

Once it was the only one that showed a moderate increase in value .

In the last year, Toyota Land Cruiser lost 2% of its value on average, but it still led its category in terms of value preservation, and by a large margin.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, which recorded a large increase in sales in recent years, fails to translate it into maintaining its value.

MX5.

Sport: MX5 once again reminds that less is more

Up :

Mazda MX5 (+8%)

No change:

Porsche 911 Carrera

Down:

Audi TT (with -4%), Chevrolet Camaro (-9%) M-W M2 (with -12%)

Mazda's roadster It's one of the cheapest true sports cars on the market, and still comes here at far too high prices, which translate into far too few numbers of cars on the road.

The combination of great pleasure and Japanese maintenance costs translated this year into nice price increases in price lists, which are not sure to reflect the full increase in market prices.

The Porsche 911 refuses to age nor has it lost value this year, something not repeated in other road legends like the Camaro and M2.

It is interesting to see that at the same price levels, in the luxury sedans, it was also possible to see large gaps in the preservation of value, when the demand for the plug-in versions and the cheaper gasoline models stands out.

According to second-hand price list data, Mercedes E350e and M-W 330IE enjoyed a value increase of 6.9% to 11.9%.

Mercedes CLA180 registered an increase of 11%.

On the other hand, S450 registered a decrease of 14.5%.
