For the first time: electric cars for Israeli government ministers.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 Prestige and Toyota bz4x Motion won the government vehicle manager's tender for vehicles for ministers and CEOs.

The car importers who initially hesitated whether to compete in the tender in light of the inventory shortage decided to enter it anyway, thanks to the small quantities of vehicles that the state is expected to purchase.

In both cases, these are the basic versions of the streetcars The Hyundai, with a 217 hp engine, is able to reach an official range of 481 km, a maximum speed of 185 km/h, and costs a private consumer NIS 214,000.

The Toyota is equipped with a 204 hp engine, officially reaches 502 km, computer limited to a speed of 160 km/h, and costs a private consumer NIS 240,000.

However, not all ministers will receive electric vehicles.

Ministers with large families will receive hybrid 7-seat crossovers, Kia Sorento or Toyota Highlander, and ministers entitled to a protected vehicle will receive an Audi A8 or Skoda Superb petrol.

Earlier this year, the Director of Motor Vehicles, who operates in the Accountant General's Division of the Treasury, announced the provision of electric models for lower levels in the government: MG ZS EV in both range and battery versions, Peugeot e2008, Peugeot e208, and Kia Niro.

The car manager decided last year to purchase only hybrid private cars from now on, and from 2025 he will switch to purchasing only electric vehicles.

According to the director, the use of vehicles with an alternative drive is expected to significantly reduce the government's future expenses for fuel and maintenance, all while reducing the air pollution created by the government fleet.

However, the state will continue to purchase commercial vehicles and vans with diesel engines, in the absence of an offer of electric models in those categories.

The government fleet has about 15,000 vehicles, including police vehicles, fire engines, the National Security Service and the various government offices. Besides these entities, other entities can purchase vehicles through tenders of the government vehicle manager, such as local authorities and government companies.

From 2025: only electric private vehicles

Accountant General, Yehli Rotenberg: "In less than a year, approximately 25% of the vehicles in the government fleet were replaced with vehicles with a hybrid drive. In light of our commitment to the climate goals, we advanced the entry of electric vehicles into the fleet by two years, and from 2025 onwards we intend to purchase only electric passenger vehicles. The transition to vehicles Electric vehicles in the government fleet are expected to pave the way for the entry of these vehicles into the private and public space, as well as promoting the installation of charging stations in government offices and the public space."

Deputy Accountant General and head of the Assets and Logistics Division, Dekel Cohen: "Electric vehicles are not only more environmentally friendly. They have lower maintenance needs, and combined with the savings created by using electricity instead of fuel - they will save the Israeli government a lot of expenses. This is another important step in the Atid project Alternative', which also includes cooperation with our counterparts abroad, and leadership in the field of environmental vehicles."
