Meta, the company behind the platforms Facebook and Instagram, wants to make a decision "quickly" about lifting the blocks against former US President Donald Trump.

Apparently, the politician should be allowed back into both social networks.

This was indicated by Meta Vice President Nick Clegg on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The decision will be announced soon.

Clegg pointed out that the ban against Trump had only been issued for a period of two years.

The Internet company suspended the ex-president after his comments on the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 and the subsequent debate about the role of the voted-out president in the riot.

At the time, a mob of Trump supporters tried to use force to prevent MPs from officially confirming Joe Biden's election victory.

Twitter did it

Clegg argued in Davos that Facebook's parent company Meta has an obligation to allow controversial discussions on its platforms.

Originally, the Silicon Valley company had announced the decision several times for January 7th.

The appointment would have taken place exactly two years after the ban was imposed.

Clegg is officially responsible for the decision at Meta.

A supervisory body of the group, the so-called Oversight Board, had insisted on the limitation of the lock in 2021.

Representatives of the US Democrats, in turn, had expressly asked the group in January to extend Trump's ban.

This continues to spread anti-democratic positions.

After Elon Musk took over the company Twitter, Trump's user account there was activated again in November 2022.

Before he was banned, Trump had more than 88 million followers there.

After the ban was lifted, however, Trump remained loyal to the platform he founded, Truth Social.

However, he only has around 4.6 million followers there.
