The technology giant Google announced today (Friday) the cut of 12,000 jobs worldwide, in a drastic step that is expected to affect the global high-tech market. 

The scope of the layoffs constitutes six percent of the scope of Google's employment worldwide.

Google Israel has not commented on the announcement as of now. 

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, Google's parent company, announced in a special memo revealed by the Reuters news agency that the company "expanded in order to deal with a much different economic reality than the one we face today." The CEO also wrote Because "I take personal responsibility for the layoffs." 

The announcement comes less than a week after software giant Microsoft announced 10,000 layoffs, in a dramatic announcement for the global technology sector.
