As the next tech giant, the Google parent company Alphabet now wants to cut thousands of jobs worldwide.

A total of around 12,000 jobs are to be lost, as the financial service Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing an email from company boss Sundar Pichai to his employees.

The 12,000 jobs correspond to around six percent of the workforce.

Areas outside the core business should be more affected by the savings.

Initially, there was no official information from Alphabet.

According to the Reuters news agency, which also quotes from Pichai's message, affected employees from the USA have already been notified by email.

In other countries, the report says that this process will take longer due to local labor laws and practices.

Other companies are also cutting jobs

Just this week, Microsoft announced that it would cut 10,000 jobs.

Before that, Amazon announced that it would cut 18,000 jobs.

And the Facebook group Meta announced that it would lose around 11,000 jobs.

During the corona pandemic, the tech companies had increased their number of employees in some cases significantly in view of the booming business.

Recently, however, business development has slowed down, among other things due to economic concerns and high inflation.
