Do you work in the construction trades? Maybe you should start worrying about your workplace:
the company Boston Dynamics, which produces products in the fields of robotics and engineering, has published a new video in which Atlas, its human (hominid) robot, helps with construction tasks.
In fact, even before Atlas' assistance was filmed, it was known that it could run and jump, but the new video shows new capabilities of the robot, which stands 1.6 meters tall, such as carrying loads and holding objects, making it an ideal companion for workers in certain fields.
In the new video, Atlas is seen building a makeshift wooden bridge as scaffolding, taking the tools with him and using it to travel from point to point.
The human robot was recorded as it maintains relationships with other objects and changes its course in order to reach its destination, pushing the limits of its movement, sensing and athleticism.
Although Atlas has only two fingers on each hand, one is fixed and the other has the ability to move and adjust to objects, it can be seen in the video that this is enough for the robot to maintain a strong grip on objects.
It should be noted that the development of humanoid robots with physical abilities that match the abilities of an average person has been a great challenge over the years, but at the moment it seems that Atlas is already in this space, when he performs actions at a higher physical level than the average person.
