Over 450 million euros, 25 nations and 60 institutions: these are the numbers of the 'Sustainable Blue Economy', the Italian-led European partnership created to protect the seas and develop the Blue economy: an unprecedented commitment to research and innovation for the European maritime dimension in a seven-year investment that will be coordinated by Italy.

"We are grateful for this role, and we are determined to do our best to fulfill our duties", communicated the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini through a message read by Marcella Panucci, Chief of Cabinet of the Minister, at the event that took place at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome to sanction the launch of the new European programme.

"Investing in the Blue Economy means bringing greater added value to activities that today are based and linked to the sea but also committing to developing new ones," said Bernini.

The partnership includes 6 tenders, the first of which in less than a month, 5 initial areas of intervention, ranging from simulations to innovations for planning and management of biological resources.

“As coordinators of the Partnership we have worked together with the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy to guarantee 9.5 million euros for the first two tenders”.

In addition to the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, the Mur will also work with the Hydrographic Institute of the Navy and 4 other research institutions (National Research Council, National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics, and the "Anton Dohrn" Zoological Station).

Finally, thanks to the funds of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the Mur has allocated significant financial resources to the theme of the Blue Economy, including the loan of 320 million euros to the new National Center for Biodiversity.
