Trailer for "SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" (PARAMOUNT)
Could it be that all our favorite characters from animated series and movies suffer from mental disorders?
A TikTok user posted a strange theory that the cartoon characters we grew up with quite openly represent mental disorders.
Her most viewed video, which has garnered nearly 30 million views, demonstrates the theory about the characters in Nickelodeon's
SpongeBob SquarePants
series.
In the video, which also earned a follow-up video, the user explained that the character of SpongeBob represents attention deficit disorder, while his neighbor Squidward is a representative figure for depression.
She also believes that Patrick, SpongeBob's sidekick, has Down syndrome, Mr. Krabs, owner of the crispy crab restaurant, has a narcissistic personality disorder, and Plankton, Mr. Krabs' sworn enemy, may represent bipolar disorder.
"It took me 10 years to realize that the SpongeBob characters represent mental disorders," she wrote in the text above the video.
Here she reveals the "truth":

The New York Post reached out to representatives at Nickelodeon about the sensational theory but did not receive a response.
Several long-time SpongeBob viewers responded to the video: "Now the whole series makes more sense," wrote one, and another added: "I'll never be able to watch SpongeBob the same way again."
Another user agreed: "You really shouldn't have updated us on that."
There were also some who didn't buy the theory: "It's just a TV show," wrote one, and another added: "Take it too far."

The user shared several similar videos about Disney princesses, "Regular Show", "Finding Nemo", "The Wonderful World of Gumball" and "Winnie the Pooh".
When it comes to the latter, it turns out she wasn't far from the truth.
A few years ago a study found that all the characters in the "Winnie the Pooh" stories represent one or another type of mental disorder.
According to the diagnosis, Winnie the Pooh was diagnosed as suffering from inattention and hyperactivity.
Poe's obsession with honey and his habit of counting things have been diagnosed as a possible obsessive compulsive personality.
In addition, the researchers determined that Piglet suffers from an anxiety disorder, Tigger has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Rabbit has OCD, Owl is a narcissist, Aya is depressed and Christopher Robin may have schizophrenia.
