Free shipping: Amazon confuses with wrong information about higher minimum order value

Amazon has recently announced several price increases. However, the limit for free shipping remains at 29 euros for the time being, even if Amazon's help page temporarily displayed 39 euros.

Some media had already reported it, and on Monday it actually looked as if Amazon had increased the minimum order value after more than seven years, from which customers without a Prime subscription do not have to pay shipping costs.

Instead of the usual 29 euros, the company's help page temporarily showed 39 euros as the minimum amount.

It's now 29 euros again.

It is the second time in a short period of time that Amazon has temporarily displayed such a change on its website.

The 39 euros were briefly visible on the site the week before last, but were then changed again.

Amazon made no official statement afterwards.

But now Amazon has issued a statement that is also available to SPIEGEL.

It says: “Customers will continue to receive free standard shipping within Germany for orders over 29 euros.

Deviating information that was briefly displayed on our help page is incorrect.

Amazon Prime members continue to benefit from free shipping.«

exception rules remain

For the time being, nothing will change in the rules of exception either: As before, the shipping costs will no longer apply to orders for books, audio books or calendars, as well as for all orders by Prime subscribers.

The shipping costs on Amazon itself are between 2.99 and 9.99 euros, depending on the products ordered and the type of shipping: The most expensive is the so-called same-day delivery, which is not available for all products.

Recently, Amazon had announced several price increases.

After 30 days, which are free for new customers, Prime membership now costs 89.90 per year or 8.99 with monthly payment.

It was previously 7.99 euros or 69 euros a year.

Also, Amazon is raising prices for its music streaming service, Amazon Music Unlimited.

So far, it costs EUR 9.99 per month or EUR 4.99 for a student subscription, family membership is available for EUR 14.99 or optionally EUR 149 per year.

From February 21, these prices will increase to EUR 10.99, EUR 5.99 for the student subscription and EUR 16.99 per month or EUR 169 per year for family membership.

In addition, in the US, Amazon will also charge shipping costs for all grocery deliveries through Amazon Fresh that are under $150 starting in late February.
