Want to feel 12 years younger?

Get it: a Mazda car leads the car sales chart in Israel.

This is according to incomplete data of deliveries for the month of January 2023, which will end today.

January is traditionally the strongest delivery month in the car market, since even those who buy cars in November and December only ask for a contractor at the beginning of the new foreign year.

According to data from the Licensing Ministry, 40,000 new cars were delivered as of yesterday, a strong delivery month, but not close to the record of 48,000 cars set for 2021.

The big surprise is Mazda's comeback.

Without hybrid and electric cars, Delek Motors has already delivered 4,500 cars this month, second only to Hyundai, which continues to lead the market for more than a decade, with 7,000 deliveries this month.

The last time a Mazda car was sold in Israel was in 2011, with the Mazda 3. However, since then Mazda has moved away from the top of the sales charts.

Kia ranks third with 3,800 deliveries, ahead of Toyota (2,700) and BYD with 2,050 cars, the first time a Chinese automaker that is also an electric-only maker has climbed into the top five best-selling brands.

Others stood out this month: Seat (1,700), Skoda (1,430), Suzuki (1,340), Mercedes (1,320) and Chery (1,300).

Mazda's comeback reaches first place in vehicle model deliveries, with 2,404 units of the small Mazda 2, the first time it leads vehicle deliveries in Israel.

The 2 returned to first place last year in the delivery of super mini vehicles.

2 enjoys esteem among Israelis, thanks to its reliability and marketability, and now also relatively good availability with the manufacturer, since it is an old model, which in most European countries has already been replaced by the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, which is sold under the Mazda logo.

A facelift for 2 was also revealed this week, which will arrive in the fall.

In second place among the models is BYD's electric Hato 3 with 1,950 units, followed by the Hyundai Tucson (1,365 units), the Hyundai i20 (with 1,300 units) and the Hyundai i10 (with 1,250).

Of the Kia Picanto, which was the best-selling car in Israel in 2022, only 700 units were delivered.

This month, 5,330 electric cars have already been delivered, occupying a market share of 13.5%, another increase compared to their share in 2022: 9.8%.

Apart from the Eto 3, the Geely Geometric C stood out with 820 units and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 500. Despite the dramatic price cut earlier this month, Tesla delivered as planned only one car, the Model S Blade, to a customer who insisted on receiving it in 2023 while paying an increased tax, and it is expected Deliver a large shipment only in March.

Among the flagship vehicles, MG EHS stands out with 1,175 units.
