Surprising encounters.

Three lynxes were seen in the Jura and Doubs (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) on January 27 and February 1.

A hiker and a motorist immortalized the moment by posting their videos on social networks.

These rare images of Europe's largest feline quickly went viral.

Since then, Internet users have not stopped commenting on them to express their joy at seeing the animal back in France.

Rare scenes to capture

On one of them, the lynx stands out from a rocky bottom, to advance on the snowy ground, before crossing a road in Moirans-en-Montagne, in the Jura, on January 27.

A dangerous appearance for the animal which hurries on seeing a heavy weight arrive in the distance.

Comfortably installed in his car and the telephone in hand, the motorist attends this scene worthy of an animal documentary.

Two other lynx were spotted in a Doubs forest on February 1.

Carpet on the ground covered with a coat of leaves, the two felines blend into the decor, almost imperceptible.

Lying down, motionless, they allow themselves to be photographed by the hiker, located high up.

Many lynx have been sighted for several months.

A hunter had seen one in a forest 20 kilometers west of Lyon on January 7.

A six-month-old female was also captured by the Athenas Center, which specializes in caring for wild animals, last December.

Found weakened, she died eleven days later of typhus, a common disease in this species.

endangered species

Today there are around 150 lynx in France, mainly located in the Jura, the Vosges and the northern Alps.

Disappeared from the metropolitan territory between the 17th and the beginning of the 20th century, the Eurasian lynx was the subject

of "a natural reintroduction and recolonization from Switzerland

" in the 1970s, says the Ministry of the Environment.
