It wasn't easy to renovate a car, the BMW X1, which since 2009, the year it was launched, immediately gained the favor of motorists from all over the world, quickly becoming the sales queen.

Suffice it to say that the X1 is the best-selling BMW model in Italy in the last six years and that since the launch of the first generation, the E84, more than 2.7 million have been sold worldwide, of which 124,300 in Italy.

Therefore, having to renew a successful car like the X1 was a difficult undertaking.

For the first time, the new BMW X1 has an all-electric drive system, as well as two plug-in hybrid models and six models with internal combustion engines (three diesel and three petrol) including four with 48 V mild hybrid technology The third generation of the X1, which is produced on a single assembly line in the Regensburg plant, has well-marked shapes which immediately distinguish it from the previous model and which allow it to have a record Cx.

Compared to the previous 2015 version, the F48, it has grown by 5.3 centimeters in length (it now has a wheelbase of 2.69 metres), in width and by 4.4 centimeters in height.

In the test drive, which lasted several days, we were able to appreciate the qualities of this engine which enhances driving pleasure in all conditions.

The engine, combined with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, has a lot of verve thanks also to the boost command which, if desired, gives maximum power for 10 seconds.

Consumption is also excellent, which in the city amounted to over 16 km with a liter of diesel.

In extra-urban we traveled just over 20 km/l and on the motorway about 18 km/l.

Among the many innovations introduced, the X1 is appreciated for its excellent habitability even when traveling in company.

Among other things, by sliding the rear sofa completely backwards, a generous space is created for passengers, more like a small limousine than a compact SUV.

Key elements of the new cabin are the slim instrument cluster, the BMW Curved Display, the "floating" armrest with integrated instrument panel and the smartphone tray with indirect lighting at the front of the center console.

The newly designed seats are available with the option of perforated Sensatec and Vernasca leather upholstery.

The rear seatback of the new BMW X1 is split 40:20:40 and can be adjusted at a different angle to expand the luggage capacity.
