With the end of the restrictions imposed by the corona pandemic, traffic has largely returned to normal.

Nevertheless, Germans were less stuck in traffic jams in 2022 than the year before.

At least it feels like you always get stuck in a traffic jam when you least need it.

But even if nothing is going on, you should keep a cool head - and, for example, never turn around and simply drive back to the next exit.

It is just as important to form the rescue lane at the right moment - the right-hand rule helps here.

The ADAC has now presented its traffic jam balance for the year 2022 - and it shows a slight decrease in traffic jam hours compared to the previous year, despite the abolition of corona-related restrictions on car traffic.

Their number is even significantly lower than the 2019 level.

ADAC balance sheet for 2022: Saturdays and Sundays have the fewest traffic jams

In the last year before the lockdown, a total of 521,000 hours of traffic jams were counted on German autobahns.

In the 2020 blocking year, their number halved to 256,000, only to rise significantly again a year later to 346,500.

Despite the normalization in 2022, the number of traffic jam hours fell slightly to 333,000.

The ADAC counted a total of 474,000 traffic jams last year, and the reported traffic disruptions totaled 733,000 kilometers.

A comparison with the values of previous years is not possible due to a new method of data analysis.

The traffic jam, however, is comparable to the previous year, according to the traffic club.

Important to know: It is not always worth leaving the motorway in a traffic jam and taking an alternative route overland.
