As you can see on our road tests page for electric cars, you can currently purchase more than 45 models in Israel without the wonder of the exhaust, at prices between NIS 100,000 and NIS 1.25 million.
And yet the new iWays U6 manages to stand out in its design, especially in the head-turning yellow.
The family brother, the U5, is one of the best-selling electric cars in Israel, with more than 1,300 units in 2022 and another 400 in 2021.
Now, about a year late from the original plan, the coupe version arrives, built around the same platform and the 63 kWh battery of the Chinese CATL. The dimensions are the same (2.80 meter wheelbase) or increased (4.81 meter length, an addition of 12 cm, 1.88 meter width , an addition of 1.5 cm), and only the height was reduced by 6 cm (1.64 meters now), as part of the transition to a more sporty look.
The trunk volume has increased from 430 to 472 liters.
The engine now has 214 hp, an increase of 10 hp, which shortened the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h by 8 tenths to 7 seconds on the way to a top speed of 163 hp.
Despite an improvement in the drag coefficient and only a slight increase in weight, the driving range (405 km) is similar to that of the U5 (with 400-410 km).
There is an option for fast charging with a not particularly high power of up to 90 kWh.

The equipment is similar to that of the equipped U5: a panoramic sun window, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, wireless charging, light 20-inch rims instead of 19 inches and a multimedia screen that has grown from 12.3 to 14.6 inches.
A small but clear 8.2-inch monitor replaces the three screens in front of the driver in the U5, whose owners will enjoy seeing another correction of a mistake: the addition of a glove box, which is sorely lacking for the owners of the first model.
There is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
The safety equipment is the same, including all the usual active systems, plus a seventh airbag, which buffers between the driver and the passenger in front during an accident.
The U5 received a disappointing 3 out of 5 stars in the European crash test, its handsome sibling has yet to be tested in a public crash test.
And the price?
NIS 220,000, NIS 27,000 more than a well-equipped U5, more expensive than the basic Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Mazda Aniac, less equipped but with a longer driving range.
The allocation to Israel this year is expected to be about 1,500 units, the same number as the U5 units that are supposed to arrive in Israel this year.
The importer will offer those waiting for U5 to move forward in line and switch to U6, with an additional fee.
