Toyota Corolla and Rab4 were the best-selling vehicles in the world in 2022, but Tesla is already in fourth place with the electric Model Y

New year, old champion.

The Toyota Corolla was the world's best-selling car in 2022, with 1.12 million units, a slight decrease of 2.2% from its 2001 sales.

Although the Japanese family is leading, it is starting to feel the pressure from the many crossovers and Jeeps, and, as we will see, also from the electric cars.

In second place worldwide is another Toyota: Rab4, with 871,220 buyers, and a more significant drop of 13.7%, perhaps also because of who first reached the top ten, and two places after it.

In third place, as in winter it rains, Ford's F-series pickups, the sales kings in the US for 42 years, and the best-selling pickup in the world. Ford sold 786,303 F pickups last year, and even though they kept their place on the podium, they lost 8.8% of sales compared to 2021 .

And in fourth place, by a small margin, for the first time an electric vehicle stood: the Tesla Model Y. Elon Musk's crossover climbed 15 places in another year, increasing sales by 88.5% and bringing 758,792 units to the roads.

The global streetcar market still accounted for less than 10% of global production in the past year, but the fact that Tesla is still dominant in the developing streetcar market, producing only 4 models, when in practice two, the Model Y and the sedan version Model 3, occupy 95% of sales, helped Y reach the position so high

Will we see him in a higher place in the 2023 table?

Very likely yes.

In fifth place is the first classic sedan, Toyota Camry, with 676,845 units, and a slight decrease of 2.7%.

And in the second five: another crossover, the Honda CR-V, with 602,675 units (and an increase of 1.8%), the pickup Chevrolet Silverado with 591,594 (and a decrease of 17.8%), the first representative of the South Korean automobile industry with the Hyundai Tucson (565,100, 1.2%+), It is followed by a third van in the top ten, the Toyota Hilux with 564,759 units (15.4%- in anticipation of a model change).

Rounding out the list is another van, the Ram from the American Chrysler-Jeep division of the Stellentis concern, with 545,423 deliveries, an increase of 2.7%.

The one still missing from the list is the Chinese car industry, and we have a feeling that will change this year.
