The group made up of
Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi
reported part of its investment and development program for new vehicles for the coming years.
And among the announcements, the manufacture of two new pickups for the plant that this alliance has in Córdoba was confirmed.
This is the new generation of a compact van, equivalent to the Oroch of the diamond brand, but that will end up being marketed with both brands.
It will be a scheme similar to the one that today involves the Alaskan and Frontier trucks, which are manufactured in Córdoba.
Precisely the second part of the announcement
confirms the continuity of these
one-ton pickups for the industrial center of the Mediterranean province.
The Renault Oroch, today manufactured in Brazil, must be replaced by the future truck.
However, it was not confirmed that the next generation of these trucks is ratified for the Cordoba plant.
Of that there was no mention and there is still not much information.
Although at the moment there are no precise dates or investment values, these announcements are in line with the rumors that anticipated future projects for the plant that today manufactures 6 different models in our country.
Compact pickup from Renault and Nissan
The success that pickups have been having in Argentina and the region demonstrates how logical it is
to continue betting on these segments.
Even in different sizes as proposed by the Franco-Japanese alliance.
At the head of the statement distributed by the group, it speaks of "A new half-ton truck, developed by the Renault Group and shared with Nissan in Argentina."
This is the model that will replace the current Renault Oroch that is produced in Brazil.
We will have to wait if the French brand will continue to use that name.
The Dacia Bigster prototype, which will be built on the same platform, can give an idea of the future pickup.
But the novelty that this project includes with respect to the current model is that
Nissan will also offer a vehicle that will come out of this development
.
The announcement of the alliance confirms the leak made in October last year by the Minister of Production of the Nation, José de Mendiguren, when in the framework of the 2022 Industrial Colloquium, held in Córdoba, he reported that Renault was going to make an investment to manufacture the new generation of the Oroch pickup at its plant in Santa Isabel.
De Mendiguren even provided motorcycles (300 million dollars), local integration percentages (he mentioned between 35% and 40%) and even production import rates (he predicted 65%).
At that time he had to go out to clarify what the minister had said.
And although he did not completely deny the words of the head of Production, he put a bit of cold cloths in relation to the model in question.
From now on
that is fully confirmed
.
Although there is no official confirmation, it is expected that the new truck will be manufactured on the alliance's CMF platform, intended for the manufacture of small, compact and medium models.
On this platform there were some advances of the group's models.
Among them, the one presented by the Romanian brand Dacia, which anticipated its future SUV, the Bigster, a model that will be launched in 2025 in the European market.
This vehicle could be the reference to get an idea of the future compact pickup.
That same CMF platform was also announced for Brazil but with a variant on which a new SUV will be built.
In this way, and with the addition of Nissan as a new member of this category, medium-sized trucks will expand their offer considerably, since there will be an offer from Fiat Toro, Ford Maverick, Chevrolet Montana and the future pickups of the Franco-Japanese alliance.
More Frontier and more Alaskan
The other news in today's announcement is the confirmation of the continuity of the Nissan Frontier and Renault Alaskan pickups at the Santa Isabel plant.
The official statement stresses that "the successful collaboration in the Nissan Frontier/Renault Alaskan family, a one-ton van, will continue. The Renault Group will produce the pickups in Córdoba for both Renault and Nissan."
The Nissan Frontier made at the Santa Isabel plant.
However, sources from the French brand were in charge of clarifying that it is not about the announcement of the manufacture of the next generation but about the continuity of the models that are now manufactured there.
In fact, there is still a bit of speculation about the future of the diamond brand model since the Córdoba factory is the only one that continues to manufacture it, after being discontinued in Spain.
