The court accepted media consultant Lior Horev's lawsuit against journalist Yanon Magal and ordered Magal to pay NIS 150,000 in damages to Horev.
As I recall, about a year ago Horev sued Magal for defamation after the latter attributed to him a political association with Gadi Eisenkot and Tal Russo.
In addition to the compensation money, Magal will have to tweet a confession for publishing a lie.
Magel did not file a statement of defense.
In the original tweet published by Yanon Magal, for which he was sued, he claimed: "Gadi Eisenkot update: LinNews has learned that Eisenkot is currently inclined to connect with Gantz. The one who really wants to join the list of the former Chief of Staff is Lior Horev,
but Eisenkot is not even ready to hear about him. YanoNews, the whole truth in the face".
Yanon Magal responded: "We agreed to go to mediation and not file a statement of defense until after the procedure was exhausted. For medical reasons of Horev's lawyer, the mediation meeting was postponed, but then Horev chose to submit a request for a technical ruling. It is regrettable that he acted in this way in the middle of a mediation procedure (But this is not surprising). In any case, and the bottom line, the verdict will be annulled."
Horev said in response to Magal's words: "I read with great regret Yanon Magal's misleading response to the ruling of the Honorable Judge Yariv, which was given in the absence of a defense. For the sake of truth and to prevent an obstacle for those who are still following the phenomenon, I will state: The Honorable Judge rejected a joint request to postpone the deadlines. Magal He did not comply with the judge's decision and avoided filing a statement of defense. These are the facts. They are in the case."
