Trailer for the series "Dexter: New Blood" (Showtime)
Despite reports that "Dexter: New Blood" has ended, the serial killer whose victims are other killers has not yet said the last word.
The American cable network Showtime - which is rebranding and will soon be called "Paramount Plus with Showtime" - announced that it is ordering a new subsidiary series called "Dexter: Origins". The plot of the new series goes back to the past and follows Dexter Morgan in the years 20 years old, at the beginning of his development as a vengeful serial killer.
"Dexter: Origins" takes place in the serial killer-infested Miami of several decades ago. According to the plot description, the story will begin when Dexter graduates from college to join the Miami Police Department, where he meets younger versions of many of the characters we met in the original "Dexter". The series will also focus on Dexter's family, including his adoptive father Harry, who is still alive, and his step-sister Deb, who as a girl was already fearless.
The network updated that it is considering other projects from the "Dexter" universe, including a spin-off that will deal with the Trinity killer in his youth, the character played by John Lithgow in the fourth season of the original series.
In addition, despite reports of the cancellation of "Dexter: New Blood" which is supposed to focus on the next generation - Harrison, Dexter's son - Showtime claims that the possibility of a continuation is still on the table and that a second season remains in development.
The veteran creator of the series, Clyde Phillips, is the one in charge of the new projects.
