The concept of
Ultra
, within the
high ranges
of mobile telephony, began to be used years ago to identify the brand's most powerful equipment.
Attentive to this trend, Apple plans to launch an iPhone with this adjective to a superlative degree.
Apple is reportedly considering ways to further increase the price of the top-of-the-line iPhone in 2024. Rather than simply renaming it the
Pro Max
, it's looking at adding one more model, called the "Ultra."
The new model would help push the average selling price of the iPhone even higher, as Tim Cook hinted on this week's earnings call that consumers are willing
to pay more
for the best phone.
Among the key points that would differentiate the
iPhone 16 Ultra
from the rest of the range, it would bring
improvements to the cameras
, a faster chip, a larger screen and perhaps a portless design.

This information was provided by Mark Gurman in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter.
There he also states that the price will be more expensive than the Pro Max, which currently starts at
$1,600
.
Apple realized in 2017 that the best way to raise the price of its devices was to add new features to its lines.
The first to include this modality was the $999
iPhone
X.
In the next issue, it added a Max screen size to the lineup, bringing the price up to $1,099 for consumers who want the iPhone with the biggest screen and best battery life.
The current version of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, unlike the rest, has the Dynamic Island, USB C port, a more advanced processor, among other software differences.
Throw in the 1TB storage option first introduced with the iPhone 13 Pro, and the current best iPhone is priced at
$1,599
.
The sales results seem to agree with Cook, since the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models have performed well this cycle, compared to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, which are the cheapest.
Although nothing is confirmed yet, an iPhone 16 Ultra would be around $1,650.
Very much in line with what an iPhone 14 Pro Max costs with 256 GB of storage and much less than what the variant with 512 GB or 1 TB of space costs.
