Porn star Ron Jeremy will not go to prison, after being found "unfit to stand trial".
Jeremy, who starred in pornographic films, was charged with more than 30 cases of rape and sexual harassment over a 23-year period and faced a 90-year prison sentence.
However, the Los Angeles attorney general's office found Jeremy, 69, incompetent to stand trial, which was scheduled to begin on May 8.
This after in January Supreme Court Justice Ronald Harris accepted the argument of Jeremy Stewart Goldfarb's attorney.
Jeremy was first arrested in 2020 on charges of raping three women, and remains behind bars pending trial.
More victims came forward during the investigation, which lasted for many months.
The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office stated that the indictment included 21 victims and conduct from 1996. The counts include 12 counts of forced rape, seven counts of forced oral sex, six counts of sexual assault and two counts of penetration while the victim was asleep or unconscious.
The alleged offenses took place in nightclubs and bars in the Los Angeles area, during photo shoots, and at Jeremy's home, the district attorney's office said.
Police are still investigating the cases.
An icon, even in mainstream movies
Throughout his career, Jeremy has starred in hundreds of pornographic films since the 1970s, earning him a place of honor in the Guinness Book of Records.
He is also considered an important and prominent figure in the American porn industry, which many of its members consider him a mentor, while alongside his acting career, Jeremy directed close to 300 films in the genre.
However, most of Jeremy's publicity came from acting in non-adult films.
Among the dozens of films in which he participated, in supporting roles and sometimes in his own role, we can name "The Pursuit", "Boogie Nights", "Boston Saints", "American Virgin" and "Laws of Attraction".
