Low demand and high cost lead to the closure of the public transport service on demand in Haifa as well.

The Ministry of Transportation announced this morning that due to failure to meet the pilot goals, the "Tik Tak" minibus service in Haifa will end its operations on March 20, 2023.

About three years ago, the Ministry of Transportation launched three urban minibus services that do not operate on fixed routes but in fixed areas. The service creates its own route for each minibus according to the boarding and disembarking stations chosen by the passengers.

Last December, Babel services in Tel Aviv operated by Dan and VIA Vetik Tek in Jerusalem operated by Egged were discontinued.

Now the Haifa case will also be closed.

This is after the Ministry of Transportation decided not to continue with the high subsidy required to operate the service.

From the data of the National Authority for Public Transportation in the Ministry of Transportation, it appears that the low numbers of passengers in the Bag Tek service in Haifa are far from meeting the goals set for Egged.

This, alongside a high subsidy level of tens of percent per passenger.

After no outline was presented that would ensure compliance with the service's goals without expanding the subsidy, the ministry decided to use the resources allocated to it to improve the public transportation service through other channels.

On average, approximately 1,100 passengers per month traveled in Thik Tek.

However, although last year the hours of operation were extended until midnight on weekdays, and the service also began to operate on Fridays, to be used for trips for leisure purposes and not only for work, the Ministry of Transportation refused to allow the Tik Tik to operate on Saturdays as well, even though the wired status allows the operation of public transportation in the city, and some The bus and matron lines operate there seven days a week.

Transportation Minister Miri Regev announced last week that she will ask the Treasury for an additional budget of NIS 2 billion per year to finance a discount on travel for 65% of passengers, increased frequencies and additional lines.

Sources close to Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that Regev Finance's plan will discuss the request of the Ministry of Transportation, but it is necessary to maintain budgetary discipline and not all requests can be granted.
