Yesterday (Monday) Apple released the iOS 16.3.1 and iPadOS 16.3.1 updates for the iPhone and iPad, and along with security updates and bug fixes, a new problem was added - an immediate crash of Google's photo application, Google Photos.
According to a report on The Verge website, neither Apple nor Google have so far addressed the complaints of users in the social authority, and it is not yet clear whether the source of the crash is actually on the server side - so that the problem can be addressed without further updating the operating system.
However, one of the changes is a patch for a zero-day vulnerability, which may be actively exploited.
Apple defined the vulnerability as a core vulnerability, and the update is intended for all owners of iPhone 8 and above and various types of iPad - including iPad Pro, iPad Air 3 and later, iPad fifth generation and later and others.
According to Apple's listing, the vulnerability allows an app to run arbitrary code, with access privileges to the system core.
According to the company's knowledge, the loophole was actively exploited.
So, in fact, you will have to choose if you update the operating system and do not expose yourself to a security breach, and at least for now, avoid updating a version for your device.
In general, despite the myths, the recommendation is to always update the operating system to improve performance and close critical security holes.
