The planned change in leadership at Twitter is dragging on. Elon Musk is now reportedly aiming for the end of 2023. Most recently, he asked employees to artificially increase the reach of his tweets.

Twitter owner Elon Musk is taking his time with the promised handover of the chief post at the online network.

He thinks the end of 2023 is a good time, Musk said in a speech at the World Government Summit on Wednesday.

»I think I have to stabilize the company and make sure that it is financially sound and that the product roadmap is clearly defined.«

So far there are no candidates for the executive chair, according to the multi-billionaire.

Meanwhile, he posted a picture of a Shiba wearing a CEO shirt at a desk on Twitter.

Musk captioned the dog picture: "The new CEO of Twitter is great."

Elon Musk bought Twitter in October in a deal worth around $ 44 billion and also took over the post as CEO.

Turbulent weeks followed, with half the workforce being laid off and controversy over the unlocking of banned accounts like that of ex-President Donald Trump.

In December, Musk had Twitter users vote on whether he should give up the post - around 57.5 percent of the poll participants were in favor of it.

The billionaire then announced that he would hand over the leadership if he found someone for the job.

Musk also heads the electric car manufacturer Tesla.

First the Super Bowl, then the super range

In his most recent appearance, Musk reiterated his accusation that the previous Twitter leadership had interfered too much with the service's freedom of expression.

At the same time, the industry blog "Platformer" reported, citing employees, that Musk's request had drastically increased the distribution of his own tweets.

Users noticed this on Tuesday.

The Twitter boss then announced that the "algorithm" - Musk himself put this word in quotation marks - should be adjusted again.

According to the “Platformer” report, the reason for the artificial boost for Musk was that his tweet about the American Super Bowl was shown to users less often than that of US President Joe Biden.

Musk then deleted his own tweet.

Shortly thereafter, software developers were asked by Twitter to increase Musk's reach.

With Twitter, users can view the short messages either in chronological order – or in a feed called “For you”, in which an algorithm decides which tweets are displayed.

The reason for Musk's annoyance was his impression that his tweets did not appear enough in the recommendation timeline, it is said.

In a recent update, Musk turned off the ability to turn off the recommendation timeline altogether, it now appears after every login.

The systems could have downgraded Musk, among other things, because he is blocked by many users.

After the rules were adjusted again, his tweets were generally given the green light, reports »Platformer«.

In addition, the “power user multiplier”, which contributes significantly to the distribution of tweets, was set to 1000 for Musk – more than for any other account.

As a result, users found that their "For You" feeds were at times full of tweets from the CEO, even after they had previously muted them.
