No gimmicks: the OnePlus 11 is a worthy flagship device - voila! technology

The new flagship device of the Chinese manufacturer proves that you don't need too many gimmicks and technological innovations to provide excellent performance, and that's even before we talked about the price

After the local launch in China, OnePlus' flagship device for 2023, the OnePlus 11, was launched globally and arrived in Israel last week, with delivery to those who ordered on February 16.

This year, the Chinese manufacturer is also focusing on what is needed - a first-class processor, a luxurious design alongside a photography system developed in collaboration with the Swedish Hasselblad company.

Is the device worth NIS 3,599?

We checked.

Design and display

OnePlus says that their designers are inspired by sports cars and Swiss watches, and you can definitely see the similarity: the Chinese manufacturer enters 2023 with a flagship smartphone that has a particularly shiny and beautiful design, where the square camera setup from last year is replaced by a round camera unit reminiscent of a Swiss watch, with Metal edges that merge with the aluminum frame, while the back of the device is made of glossy glass and has a minimalist look.

The screen on the OnePlus 11 is an OLED type, 6.7 inches in size, with support for a 120 Hz refresh rate, including a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protective coating - so it may survive strong falls (the rear glass is protected by the Gorilla Glass 5 standard).

The quality of the display is outstanding, fluid and sharp, and in general one of the best we have come across in a smartphone in recent times.

On the other hand, it's a shame they didn't give up the curved edges.

You can also find protection against water and dust in the IP64 standard, so it is resistant to light water splashes - but you cannot immerse it in a pool or in deep water (a rather significant disadvantage).

All in all, OnePlus has managed to make a very flashy flagship device feel great in the hand, and it weighs a total of 205g, and that's a consideration too.

The device we received for review is green in color, but in Israel you can also find the black version (Titan Black) that includes a frosted glass back (rough finish) on the back.

Performance and battery

True, the OnePlus 11 does not provide all the convenience of a flagship device, but it certainly handles like one.

It includes Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, along with 12 GB of RAM (in the version we tested, but there is also an 8 GB version) and eSIM support.

In simple language: this is a modern flagship smartphone that provides almost

identical performance

- at a lower price than Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The operating system here is Android 13 with OnePlus' Oxygen OS skin.

Similar to other devices that come with it, visually the interface and menus are more stylish than clean Android - a little less than before, but still preserves a lot of features of the original Google operating system - which is a very positive point.

In any case, the OnePlus 11 was able to respect all tasks, and the processor delivers above and beyond on the performance side, both in games and in regular use of the device.

Also, the Chinese manufacturer added a 100 watt charger to the package that is able to charge the 5,000 mAh battery in about 30 minutes.

It's useful, it's great, but the charger is quite big and bulky compared to normal chargers.

In terms of battery time, we emphasize that we didn't spend a lot of time with the OnePlus 11, but in an average routine use that mostly consisted of social networks, video and still shots and phone and WhatsApp calls, we were left with 40 percent battery after 24 hours of use.

On the other hand, there is no support for wireless charging.

Camera

Like OPPO, which, like OnePlus, is under the huge BBK corporation, OnePlus continues its collaboration with the Swedish camera manufacturer Hasselblad - a connection that succeeds in bringing us an extremely advanced photography setup, which includes a main sensor with a resolution of 50 megapixels from Sony (IMX890).

Next to it is a 48-megapixel wide-angle sensor and a 32-megapixel telephoto and 2x zoom camera.

So how is the photography setup?

particularly impressive.

In most lighting conditions, the OnePlus 11 will give you wonderful photos, with an excellent level of detail, with Hasselblad's color calibration managing to further improve the performance at the final level.

Even in night mode or in less good lighting conditions, such as a closed space, the camera managed to function in a great way and did not present an excessive "deficit".

Overall, the quality of photography here is excellent, and it is a good choice for content creators and even beyond.

Bottom line

The OnePlus 11 delivers exactly what you need:

an Android smartphone with top-of-the-line specs, excellent performance, an advanced camera, and a sleek, luxurious design.

Besides all this, the price (NIS 3,599) makes it particularly attractive.

On the other hand, it is important to remember that there is no IP68 dust resistance or support for wireless charging, but it is likely that most of us will be able to live without it.

(By the way, the 8 GB RAM version is sold for NIS 3,099).
