The Jewish-American actor Richard Belzer, known for playing the detective John Munch in several series, passed away yesterday (Saturday) at the age of 78. Belzer appeared
in films such as "Scarface" and "Fame" and participated in the "Sesame Street" series and "Saturday Night Live" in its early days, but is best known as the one who played Munch, a mythological television detective, first in the series "Red to Black Murder" and later, after it was canceled in the late 90s, in "Law and Order: Special Section", and In other series such as "Cases in the Dark", "Family in Disturbance", "The Hidden" and "Rock 30".
It is the only fictional character, played by a single actor, who has physically appeared in ten different television series.
Blazer retired from acting in 2016, and since then devoted himself to writing conspiracy books, and among other things published books dealing with conspiracy theories about the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
He left behind a wife, actress Harley McBride, with whom he had lived since the 1980s and raised her two daughters from a previous marriage.
His cousin is actor Henry Winkler.
