Waiting times at charging stations are already a problem for e-car drivers.

The car manufacturer Ford has now submitted a patent application for an interesting solution.

The number of electric cars on the roads is increasing and increasing - and with it the need for charging stations.

Bottlenecks and correspondingly long waiting times are therefore constantly occurring, such as during the holiday season in Croatia or a while ago in England.

The manufacturer Tesla is now partially releasing its superchargers for other brands.

But there are problems: Due to the different placement of the charging socket on the different Stromers, the situation can arise in which a supercharger is blocked and remains empty.

Ford could now have developed a solution for this situation and for the lack of charging stations in general.

The manufacturer has filed a patent for a new charging system with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The system should make it possible to charge several electric vehicles from just one power source.

The idea: one vehicle docks directly at the charging station, the second vehicle uses the first, the third is attached to the second and so on.

The patent application can be viewed online.

New electric car charging concept from Ford: Different charging strategies possible

According to a report by

Carbuzz

, Ford proposes various charging strategies in the application.

A “distributed charging strategy” would therefore mean that each connected vehicle would be charged at the same rate.

A “waterfall charging strategy”, on the other hand, would mean that the first vehicle would have priority and be fully charged – only then the second and so on.

There could also be the possibility for the owner to set which vehicle should receive how much energy.

New electric car charging concept from Ford: some questions still remain unanswered

The idea that an electric car offers a power connection is completely new, but not: The Ford F-150 Lightning, for example, can be used as a kind of huge power bank, for example for an outdoor party.

However, the patent that has now been applied for goes a decisive step further.

Ford's current concept is to charge several vehicles from just one power source, but it's probably more for home use.

There are still many unanswered questions about a public charging station.

For example: What if the first vehicle wants to drive away and the rest are not yet fully charged?

Or: How do you actually calculate the electricity for such a chain charging?

And what if someone simply docks their vehicle to their own without being asked?

For households with only one power source, however, the Ford concept could well be a viable solution.
