Six members of the Knesset and two Mishkan employees will participate in testing the use of electric vehicles for a year. The intention: to increase the number to 33 Knesset members and 12 employees

Apparently, in the current political atmosphere, you won't be able to find too much in common with members of the Shas, Yesh Atid, the state camp, Likud, and Otzma Yehudit. Except that yesterday morning, six members of the Knesset from these parties gathered together with Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana for a first impression of a number of electric car models .

This is within the framework of a new Knesset pilot.

As part of the experiment, members of the Knesset Ariel Bosso (Shas), Zvika Fogel (Otzma Yehudit), Ron Katz (Yesh Atid), Orit Parkash HaCohen (The State Camp), Keti Shatrit (Likud) and Erez Malol (Shas) and two other workers Knesset will switch to using an electric car.

Tamar Bar On, head of the environmental quality department in the Knesset: "About a year ago, charging stations were installed in the Knesset for the use of Knesset employees and its guests. Now we are expanding the move and are working to supply electric vehicles to Knesset members and employees and to install additional charging stations."

So while with one hand the state is making electric cars more expensive by reducing the tax benefit on them, promoting the legislation that will allow the collection of driving tax from their owners, with the other hand it is trying to portray itself as green and promoting environmentally friendly cars.

The Israeli parliament is one of the few in the world that provides its 120 members with an attached vehicle, as it is customary to provide employees in the private market, being the place of work of the MKs

. Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana.

"This step strengthens the position of the Knesset as one of the greenest and most advanced parliamentarians in the world in this field and we hope that it will serve as an example to the people of Israel."

According to Bar On, this pilot is a continuation of a move that began during the previous Knesset period, when charging stations were installed for the use of employees and guests and is now expanding to supply the vehicles themselves.

In a year, the results of the pilot will be submitted for consideration by the Knesset management and a decision will be made on whether to expand it.

If it is expanded, the use will be increased by 20-30% every year - that is, about 33 tools of Knesset members - 12 Mishkan employees.

At this stage it is not clear which models will enter the pilot.

In the meantime, the members of the Knesset were brought to impress Polestar's Polestar 2, which costs between NIS 255,000 and NIS 335,000 in the high-end version, as well as the BYD Atto 3, which costs NIS 163,500 to NIS 175,500.

It can be estimated that the cars that will actually be offered to MKs will be significantly cheaper than the Polestar and slightly more expensive than the BYD. For the ministers, the Government Vehicle Manager has already chosen the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Toyota bZ4x as an electric option. The leasing company that currently supplies the vehicles to the Knesset is Shlomo Sixt, which is

expected To provide MKs with the electric cars as well.
