A week and a half after the cyber attack on the Technion, by an unknown hacker group that identified itself as Dark Bit, the Haifa educational institution confirms that the attackers are identified with Iran.
"In recent days, the Technion has been dealing with a broad and complex cyber attack led by a group of attackers identified with Iran," said officials from the Technion, who further stated that it was apparently an attack with a national-political background: "The choice of us as a target was not accidental, and its purpose was to damage a national symbol."
Another concern that the Technion reveals concerns the theft of information by the hackers.
"In the last few hours, the attackers published that they have information that they claim was stolen from the Technion. In the estimation of the professionals and in contrast to the attackers' publications, this is not a revenge event, both due to the political identity of the attackers and due to the nature of the attack and its purpose. This is an event of consciousness and destruction."
"We are in the middle of the event and are managing it carefully and with the required sensitivity, in cooperation with professional parties and in coordination with the national cyber system and the relevant authorities. At the same time as dealing with the consequences of the attack, we are gradually returning to a safe activity routine."
