The Ministry of Transportation continues to be emptied of professionals since Miri Regev returned to it, who announced upon taking office "We have come to govern and the officials will have to line up."

Today, Ran Shadami, the head of the public transport authority in the ministry, announced his departure.

Shadami (57) has held the position since December 2021, first as an acting deputy, after previously serving as the authority's deputy director and as head of the (senior) economics department for public transportation at the authority.

In the past, he served as the CFO of "Egged Taborah". Shami has a bachelor's degree in economics and agriculture from the Hebrew University, and a master's degree in business administration from Ben Gurion University.

Shadami replaced Yaakov Netanyahu, who was appointed by Regev during her previous tenure, after she changed the criteria for filling the position and canceled the requirement for professional experience in the field.

Netanyahu served as CEO of the Harish Municipality, but had not previously dealt with the field of transportation, and his subordinates claimed that his lack of experience was noticeable in his conduct. Last September, the government approved Shadami's appointment to the position permanently, following the recommendations of the search committee appointed by then Minister of Transportation Marev Michaeli.

The National Authority for Public Transportation in the Ministry of Transportation serves as a government regulator in charge of the field of public transportation.

The authority deals with the regulation, control, planning and operation of the industry, and manages a budget of approximately NIS 12 billion per year.

Shadami resigned after Regev acted in recent weeks to cancel part of the plan he formulated under the guidance of Michaeli, and received funding from the Ministry of Finance to add lines and frequencies to the public transportation system, in order to improve the level of service and bring back to the public transport system passengers who left it in favor of private vehicles

. Traveling by public transportation for only 360 million shekels, half of the 700 million shekels she demanded, Michaeli decided to divert budgets approved by the Treasury to improve the lines and frequencies to finance the discount.

Regev's plan stands in contrast to the conclusions of the ministry's professionals, who stated in a report published last month based on a national passenger survey, that the price of the trip ranks relatively low in passenger complaints.

According to the survey, the reliability of the service is more important to passengers, meaning compliance with the schedule and accuracy in travel times.

Shorter travel times were recorded in second place, two sections that emphasize the need for preferential routes for public transportation.

In the third place, they indicated suitable routes for their needs, and in the fourth place, a more pleasant trip - new and clean buses, stations with shading, and more.

This is already the second resignation of a senior official subordinate to Regev within a week.

Last week, the Director General of the Airports Authority Major General Hagai Topolanski resigned, after the authority's board recommended his removal. Topolanski was also appointed by Michaeli following the recommendation of a search committee, but from the moment Michaeli returned to the office, the Chairman of the Authority, General Major Yitzhak (Jerry) Gershon, who was appointed to his position by Regev during her previous tenure, in attempts to depose him.

Although in the seven months that he ran the authority, the waiting times at the airport were shortened and the number of flights that take off late decreased by 50%, Topolansky's removal was approved by a council The authority, half of whose members are government officials subordinate to Regev and other Likud ministers.

Topolansky decided not to fight the decision legally and resigned, while writing: "Recently I have seen how politics, threats, foreign considerations and improper processes prevail over performance, values and the good of the public and the general."

Michaeli wrote today that "One after the other, the excellent professionals of the Ministry of Transportation are leaving the office that Regev is turning into a branch of the corrupt Bibist Likud. And good luck to all of us in the traffic jams."

No response was given from the Ministry of Transportation and the Office of the Minister of Transportation.
