The sale of 0 km cars started in 2023 at full speed.
After a rosy January that registered year-on-year growth of 15% and 154% compared to December 2022, the February numbers also closed on the rise.
The Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA) reported the number of registrations last month amounted to 30,121 units, which represented an increase of 3.5% compared to February 2022 when 29,103 vehicles had been registered.
In this way, in the first two months 80,486 units were patented, 10.8% more than in the same period of 2022 (72,609 vehicles).
After being displaced in January by the Amarok, the Toyota Hilux once again became the best-selling pickup in the country.
Good start but missing
Despite the good start, the sector recognized that the offer is still scarce and that if there had been more options available the result would have been even better.
In this regard, the president of ACARA, Ricardo Salomé commented: "February ratifies a start to the year with an acceptable two-month period, with figures similar to those of last year and with growth, although we continue to face the problem of the lack of a complete offer, due to global problems and local constraints".
Salomé added that "as the year progresses and the liquidation of foreign currency can be accelerated, the release of vehicles and parts will grow, something that has become key to accompany this growing demand but that quickly finds limits."
From ACARA they anticipate that the estimated 420,000 units for this year may only be one floor.
Chevrolet Tracker is the best-selling SUV so far in 2023.
"The recent easing of the agreement with the IMF will also help to continue stabilizing the macro economy. Historically, when economic activity improves, our sector is a central protagonist," Salomé completed.
The volume of sales of the brands once again had Toyota as the great protagonist of the month, with 5,931 patents (42.6% below the 10,341 sales in January).
As in January, Fiat ranked second with 4,574 patented vehicles, although also with a notably lower volume (41.9%) than the 7,868 units sold in January.
In February, the Toyota Yaris dropped four positions, falling from 10th to 14th place.
The third place on the podium had a variation compared to January: Peugeot (3,323 units) displaced VW to fourth place (3,260 units), although in the accumulated the German brand continues to maintain third place (9,370) behind Toyota (16,272) and Fiat (12442).
On the models side, the Fiat Cronos continues with its unstoppable pace, taking out almost twice as many patents as the Peugeot 208, its immediate pursuer.
At the same time, as happened with the brands, in February there was also a change in third place on the podium, since the Toyota Hilux once again became the best-selling pickup after being surpassed in January by the Volkswagen Amarok.
