Mini Countryman, will share a base with the BMW X1 (photo: manufacturer's website)
BMW is finally replacing one of the oldest models in the group's offering: the Mini Countryman, whose current generation was launched back in 2014, and there are some dramatic changes.
The first: despite its all-too-obvious identity, the new Countryman will be produced at the BMW plant in Leipzig.
It is true that the current generation is also not produced with the other Mini models in Oxford, but in the Nedkar factory in the Netherlands, the same production line that previously built the Mitsubishi Charizma Volvo S40, and long ago became an independent factory.
But manufacturing in Germany is a benchmark that BMW has avoided in the nearly 25 years that the British brand has been under its ownership.
Rolls-Royce models also make extensive use of BMW components, but the Germans dare not produce them alongside the 7-series.
Another and requested change: switch to electricity.
The Countryman was one of the first in the group to be offered in a plug-in version, but in the new generation it will be replaced by a fully electric version, which will be offered alongside a gasoline version.
This is as part of the transition of the model to a completely new platform.
The basis from now on will be BMW's FAAR floor on which models such as the Series 1, Series 2 Gran Coupe and the X1 are based, in short - the front-wheel drive platform of the manufacturer from Munich.

From the use of this platform are also derived the engines we see in it - BMW's family of 3 and 4 transverse cylinders.
These start with a 1.5-liter 136 hp and continue with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with outputs that will probably be 156, 265 or 306 hp, depending on the version.
In the electric version, which will be a twin to the iX1, you can expect two electric motors that deliver 313 hp, and feed from a 64.7 kWh battery, and a combined range of 440 km. The
current Mini Countryman is currently sold in Israel only in the plug-in version, at a price of 275 thousand According to importer Delek Motors, the new generation will arrive in Israel in mid-2024.
