Sharon Gal joined Channel 14 as an especially eloquent bibist who has no problem selling words to his viewers - voila! culture

Despite coming from an apparently larger channel, Sharon Gal - who started presenting the news broadcast on Channel 14 yesterday - does not bring with him any aura of quality journalism

It has been exactly 40 days since I wrote a review of the TV show "Five" presented by Sharon Gal on Channel 13. The title given to that article was "Sharon Gal's show is so embarrassing, one might mistakenly think the TV is on Channel 14".

I stand behind this title today more than ever, certainly after Sharon Gal's debut program as the host of the main edition of the channel that started as the Israel Heritage Channel and turned into the Netanyahu Heritage Channel along the way.

The broadcast of the edition under its new management was successful.

There were no difficulties in adapting, partly because Sharon Gal, whose television talent is not in doubt, simply continued to do the same program he did on the corresponding channel.

According to the rating tables, the number of viewers did not change much either.

The truth is that even if he tries, Sharon Gal cannot make Channel 14 more right-wing.

This is also not the reason why he received an offer to join the presentation of the main edition alongside Maggie Tavibi, who turned from a very surprising casting (not to mention, a gimmick) into an excellent news presenter who does not fall short of her experienced colleagues on the corresponding channels.

Channel 14's main newscast was a kind of strange wild flower within the channel's current affairs broadcasts.

Yes, the tone was always conservative - but relatively fair.

The writings were skewed to the right, but no more so than certain writings in the parallel channels that skewed to the left.

The extreme bibism that characterizes the channel, led by talents such as Shimon Riklin, Yaakov Berdogo, Arel Segal, Boaz Golan or Yanon Magal did not really penetrate the limits of the edition for a long time. Things began to change since the last elections, and especially since Shiriv Levin and Simcha Rothman

began to give gas with the legal revolution. Bardogo's place in the edition became permanent, and the political coverage that became more and more central, degraded the entire edition to the level of credibility of the propaganda videos of Galit Distel Atabrian. With or without connection, the edition's ratings, like the entire channel's, only soared .

In this reality, a decent presenter like Tavibi could have received an incentive from the channel's editors to continue doing the good work that promoted the edition - but instead they landed Sharon Gal on her head.

Perhaps on the occasion of Purim, the channel decided to remove the last mask of objective communication - and sent Sharon Gal, already in his first program as the anchor of the edition, to invent an alternative reality around the "siege on Sara Netanyahu's hair salon".

The event, unnecessary by all accounts, has already been forgotten.

Since then, a quarter of a million people have managed to take to the streets, probably as a counter-reaction to the members of the government and their families who called them "anarchists" or "terrorists".

But the reality is just an obstacle in the way of propaganda as far as Channel 14 is concerned. Sharon Gal not only continued the line that the protesters in Madinah Square intended to assassinate Sara Netanyahu (according to her words), but chose to make a comparison between her and Lihya Lapid and Gilat Bennett who received broad media protection according to Sharon Gal .

Even Aliza Olmert was included in Sharon Gal's scholarly opinion.

Does it matter at all that Gilat Bennett never interfered in political and security appointments, as they testified in court against Sara Netanyahu?

Did Lehya Lapid demand to double her and her husband's clothing budget to NIS 80,000 a year?

Because that's what Sara Netanyahu got just last week.

Did Aliza Olmert ever threaten that she and her husband Ehud would leave abroad and that the country would burn?

Because this is something Sarah Netanyahu has said before.

Any comparison between Sara Netanyahu and other prime minister's wives is a joke.

It's lucky that Sharon Gal at least didn't accuse Sonia Peres of media trolling either.

And in any case, that's what Sharon Gal was brought in for.

Although it came from a seemingly larger channel, it does not bring with it any aura of quality journalism - but only of another eloquent bibist who has no problem selling words to a viewing public that is probably ready to simply swallow everything.

In 2015, as number 5 on Avigdor Lieberman's "Israel Beitno" list, Sharon Gal was interviewed for Mira Awad's light interview program in "Haaretz" newspaper.

In the interview, Gal "explained" to Avod that she lives in a Jewish and democratic country.

"I wish," Awad answered him with a smile.

"No, no," stressed Gal, "she is a democrat, a democrat. Sometimes too much so."

Now, when Israeli democracy is facing a real test, there is no one more suitable than a presenter who thinks that the country is sometimes too democratic, to lead the main edition of the government's main message channel.
