Many businessmen dream of becoming car importers, a field that is considered stable and profitable over the years.
But there are also those who shortly after fulfilling their dream move on.
Vala has learned that Netanya businessman Eliyahu Gridish has agreed to sell his share in the importer of Chinese electric cars EV MOTORS.
Gridish, an ultra-Orthodox businessman who is married to the daughter of American businessman Daniel Abrams, was one of the controlling owners of the company that was established in 2020 and began operating in 2021, and holds the concessions to import JAC and WM electric vehicles, import the London taxi made by LEVC, which is currently under Chinese ownership, and import Ankai electric buses.
The company also has holdings in the Israeli company Gensel, which develops charging stations for electric vehicles that are fed with hydrogen.
The initial forecasts for the sale of thousands of electric cars in the first year of operation in 2022 did not materialize, due to the chip crisis, a series of relatively basic electric models and a delay in the arrival of advanced models.
In the past year, JAC delivered 191 cars and LEVC another 29. Ankai delivered 5 buses.

Now the company, headed by chairman Ohad Seligman, is preparing for a strategic launch in the form of a first model of WM, which will also be its first to be equipped with advanced active safety systems, and to be sold at a competitive price to the market. In place of Gridish, the owners of Holon Motors, Rafi Cohen and Avi Francis entered as partners in the
company Holon Motors is one of the largest and most successful sub-agents of the Hyundai and Mitsubishi importer, Kalmobil, which also owns additional activities such as rescue and towing services, and car rental. At the same time, a number of veteran
car importers are showing interest in purchasing another part of the company, especially those who do not currently hold significant franchises for Chinese brands. Vala learned that the company is considering bringing in another partner.
EV MOTORS confirmed that the owners of Holon Motors purchased a stake in the company, but said: "There are talks, but there is no conclusion yet on the entry of additional partners from the field."
