After discounting by 20% in January its two best-selling models, Model 3 and Model Y worldwide, today Tesla also reduced the prices of the two most expensive models, Model S and Model X, for now only in the US. The discount rate: between 4% and 9%.
The base Model S now costs $90,000 in the US, down $5,000.
The performance version, the Plaid, has been discounted by the same amount and now costs $110,000.
The Model X, the hatchback crossover based on the Model S, has been discounted by double the amount.
The basic model was discounted by $10,000 to $100,000, and the plaid version by the same amount, to $110,000.
Tesla was not informed in advance about the discount, which was updated without warning on its American website.
However, one can see a hint of the move in the words of Elon Musk at the company's investor day last week, according to which "the aspiration rate of people to purchase a Tesla is very high. The main factor that limits them is their ability to pay for a Tesla," Musk said at the time.

In Israel, the Model S is now sold for NIS 738,000 in the regular model and NIS 825,000 in the plaid version, before extras.
Model X was sold for NIS 777,000 and NIS 849,000, respectively.
If the discount from the US reaches the local market as well, it may reduce the price of Model S by about 40,000 NIS and that of Model X by about 80,000 NIS. Such a
move could stabilize the sales of both models, which have been struggling to rise since their first shipment finally arrived to Israel at the end of 2022. Most of the cars were already ordered almost two years ago with the launch of Tesla in Israel, and the first orderers paid much less for them - the Model S initially cost in Israel only 420,000 shekels and the Model X - from 446,000 shekels.
